Jay-Z Releases His Favorite Songs of 2020

Jay-Z Shares his 2020 Vision with a Playlist on Tidal

Hova is back with his annual tradition of putting his favorite songs of the year on a playlist in his digital streaming platform, Tidal. He titled the playlist “2020 vision COVID 19”. This is obviously a way to commemorate how the deadly COVID-19 disease has taken over the year 2020. Although it was a dreadful year in regards to disease and racial injustice, there was still some great music released throughout the year.

    Naomi Osaka Graces The Cover

Jay-Z chose a very striking image for the cover art of the music playlist. He chose a picture of tennis superstar, Naomi Osaka wearing a face covering with George Floyd’s name on it. During Osaka’s U.S. Open championship run, she wore a different mask with the names of black people unlawfully killed by police. These names included, Breonna Taylor, Elijah McClainAhmaud ArberyTrayvon MartinGeorge FloydPhilando Castile and Tamir Rice. This was a powerful demonstration by Naomi Osaka and she represented black people in a masterful way on the biggest stage in the sport of tennis. It was great to see Jay-Z pay his respect to Naomi Osaka’s activism.

The playlist features some huge names on it. A lot of artists were expected, but Jay-Z also put in some hidden gems. Drake and Lil Baby rightfully appear the most on this list with 4 entries for Drake, and 3 for Lil Baby. Drake’s biggest entry into the playlist was his song “Laugh Now, Cry Later”, which featured artist Lil Durk, who also had a few songs on the list. Lil Baby’s “We Paid” and “Grace” were huge hits from his number 1 selling album “My Turn”. Jay-Z appears on the list with his features on Jay Electronica’s debut album “A Written Testimony”. He gave a spotlight to Freddie Gibbs for his critically-acclaimed and Grammy nominated album, “Alfredo”. His former rap rival but now friend, Nas made two appearances on the playlist from his latest released album “King’s Disease”. The three leading members of the Griselda crew were sprinkled all throughout the playlist. Westside Gunn, Benny The Butcher, and Conway The Machine have always been favorites of Jay-Z. And he could not make a list about music with out adding his lovely wife, Beyoncè with her song “Black Parade” and the “Savage (Remix)” (He helped write Beyoncè’s verse) with Megan Thee Stallion.
