A viral claim circulating on X that popular livestreamer Ekane’s children’s father, Christopher D. Smith, died in a police shootout has no supporting evidence and follows a pattern of similar false reports.
The post, published Wednesday morning by the account @PregameSin, stated that “Popular Influencer Ekane’s bd Chris has reportedly passed away this morning at just 35 years old after a fatal sh**tout with police.” It included two older family photographs of Smith with Ekane and their children. The post quickly drew millions of views and thousands of interactions.
No police department has issued a statement confirming any such incident. No obituary, death record, or news report from a local or national outlet has appeared. Searches of public records and law enforcement releases turn up nothing matching the claim.
Ekane, whose legal name is Erica Kane, is a livestreamer known for content centered on her personal life, relationships, and family. Christopher D. Smith is the father of her three children and has appeared alongside her in streams and videos for years as an on-again, off-again partner. Public records and past streams list his date of birth as February 29, 1992.
Nearly identical wording and the same family photographs first spread in late March 2026. An account then claimed Smith had died that morning at age 34 in a police shootout. Within hours, Smith appeared on a livestream, said he was fine, and noted he was watching his children while his mother had called him in tears over the false report. Ekane also addressed the rumor on stream, calling it baseless and stating she would not be online if the father of her children had died.
The same account and others have recirculated variations of the story multiple times since, including posts in August and late September that claimed Ekane spent between $16,000 and $25,000 on a funeral and was struggling with rent. Captions changed the dollar figures while reusing old video clips of Ekane that contain no mention of a death.
Recent content contradicts the latest claim. On September 19, a YouTube video titled “20 PEOPLE VS EKANE & CHRIS” featured both individuals. Ekane’s own YouTube channel posted multiple lives in mid-to-late September that reference Chris by name and show ongoing interaction, including discussions of his music and daily life. No statements from Ekane or Smith acknowledge any loss.
The photographs attached to the viral posts predate the alleged incidents by years. One shows a pregnant Ekane with Smith on a boat; the other is a family selfie with two of their children. Neither image provides evidence of a shootout or recent death.
As of Thursday morning, the claim remains unverified by any official source. Smith continues to appear in recent online content, and no law enforcement agency has reported an officer-involved shooting matching the description.
