Horrific: 7-Year-Old Boy Robbed at Gunpoint for $10 in Memphis

A 7-year-old boy got pinned to the ground and stared down the barrel of a gun all for two $5 bills in his pocket.

Kamari Hardin was heading home from Riverview Community Park in South Memphis on March 18 when two teenage suspects, around 16 and 17 years old, jumped him and at least one or two other kids near Vaal Avenue just after 9 p.m. They tripped him, put a knee on his legs, pointed a black handgun at him, yanked his hand away from his pocket, and snatched the $10 he had earned doing odd jobs.

The teens took cash from the other boys too, then bolted into an open field. Kamari walked away without a scratch on his body but the fear hit deep.

“I was thinking he was gonna shoot me, so I just let my hand go,”

The boy told WREG News, his voice cracking as he described the moment.

“They went into our pocket, and got all the money I had.”

That night flipped everything for Kamari. He refuses to leave the porch now. The park? Off limits. Even stepping outside feels impossible.

His mother, Toni Hardin, laid it out plainly.

“He doesn’t even want to leave the porch. He’s scared to walk around the neighborhood because he doesn’t know if it’s going to happen to him again.”

She added the family had recently moved there and never saw this coming:

“It is not safe over here… these parents… don’t care what their kids are doing.”

The Hardins launched a GoFundMe titled “Help Ka’Mari Move to a Safer Home.” It has already pulled in more than $5,000 from strangers who want to get this family out of the danger zone.

The raw WREG interview clip hit X when @DailyLoud posted it, and the internet lost it. In just 37 seconds, viewers watched Kamari relive the terror while his mom spoke about the trauma. Replies flooded in fast pure shock mixed with raw anger, demands for arrests, and plenty of people linking it to bigger problems like youth crime and broken neighborhoods.

Memphis logged more than 1,000 robberies in 2025, even after a 31% citywide drop. This case throws a spotlight on the juvenile side of things and the easy reach of guns in some pockets of the city. It ties straight into the wider national talk about protecting kids when they should be able to play outside without looking over their shoulders.

Detectives are reviewing neighborhood cameras and asking for tips through CrimeStoppers at 901-528-CASH. No arrests have come through yet.
