Gunna Releases New Song Snippet About Young Thug in Prison

The Atlanta-based rapper Gunna has released a new song snippet about young thug in prison and the YSL case.
This song comes after Gunna reportedly fed information to Young Thug to get out of jail in the YSL racketeering case.
Rap fans are notorious for their vitriol against snitches. It’s part of what makes rap fandom an extension of anti-Blackness and capitalism.

Caught wind of the gossip, they claim I’m leaving in a rush

But we ain’t budging, I’m staying put, gonna face this, no hush

I thought, why not? Let’s cast some heavy shadows, make ’em frown

Let’s throw those haters some stormy skies, bring the thunder down.

Been gone for months And I just keep seein’ these dark clouds

Gunna for snitching on Young Thug

It seems that Lil Durk is subtly criticizing his past collaborator, Gunna, in the wake of the backlash stemming from his plea deal during the YSL RICO trial. The Atlanta rapper released a new song snippet about young thug in prison.

As you might expect, Gunna has been receiving a ton of criticism from the hip hop community for allegedly snitching on Young Thug in exchange for his release from jail. Both Lil Baby and Young Thug unfollowed the “Pushin P” rapper weeks after his plea deal.

In December, Gunna pleaded guilty to racketeering and other charges related to his work with Young Stoner Life Records. His plea came on the heels of a 56-count RICO case against Thug and 26 other YSL members, including Gunna.

The YSL case is one of the biggest in hip-hop history, and it’s bringing out some of the most extreme reactions from rap fans. As a result, many in the industry are calling out Gunna for snitching on his fellow YSL label-mates and even trying to make fun of him.

According to a source close to the case, however, Gunna will not testify against YSL co-defendants. His Alford plea solely applies to his case, so statements made during that hearing will not be used against those who are sitting trial.

He also has the option to plead the fifth if called to testify, which means he could still be sentenced to jail if his statements were found to be true. But Johnson, the lawyer who helped negotiate the plea deal, said he believed prosecutors would not want to use those statements as evidence against the other YSL co-defendants in court.

In addition to the snitching allegations, there are other concerns that the YSL case could have on the broader hip-hop community. For example, if the case has a significant impact on the credibility of rappers, it could affect the ability of artists to collaborate with each other in the future.

Lil Durk slams Gunna for snitching

The rap game has taken a beating over the last month or so since Gunna and Young Thug accepted plea deals in their RICO case. During that time, rappers ranging from 6ix9ine to Boosie BadAzz have called out their peers in the biz. In a recent Instagram post, rap superstar Lil Durk teased a new song snippet that seems to be a nod to the recent YSL-related arrests.

Lil Durk is no stranger to snagging a good quote or two from a rival, but this is the first time the rapper has used his own patented slang in a song that is specifically aimed at a target audience. Whether or not the tack-on slang is a good thing for the long-term health of the hip-hop industry remains to be seen.

One thing is for certain, snitching on your fellow rap stars is no easy feat, especially when you’re accused of something as big as lying to law enforcement in order to secure your release. It’s for that reason that Lil Durk took a page out of the rappers playbook to put an end to the snitching scandal once and for all.
