GTA fans have raised more than $63,000 for Jerry Fort, a 25-year-old TikTok creator waiting on a lung transplant, after he posted a hospital video saying the one thing he still wants is to play Grand Theft Auto VI.
Fort, who goes by @voidonly on the platform, uploaded the clip on Aug. 8 from the ICU. He has dealt with interstitial lung disease since he was 17. The progressive scarring of his lung tissue has left him dependent on oxygen and in need of a transplant. In the video he explained that the surgery will be especially complicated because his lungs are attached to the chest wall. Doctors will have to separate them before removal and replacement. He called the procedure “very bloody, very dangerous” and “a very unique case,” while adding that the medical team believes he can make it through.
The caption was simple: “I just want to play GTA VI. Rockstar and their delays, man.” The post picked up millions of views in short order. Gamers answered with both encouragement and cash.
His mother, Paris Fort, launched a GoFundMe titled “Help My Son Reach His Lung Transplant.” The page lists the money for transplant-related financial requirements, relocation for specialized care, and living costs while she steps away from work for six to 12 months to support his recovery. Fort had spoken earlier of needing around $15,000 to get the family through the year. Donations moved well past that target. The campaign now sits near $64,000 of a $70,000 goal, with more than 3,400 people contributing.
In a later video Fort thanked the wave of messages. He said he never expected that much support. If the transplant succeeds, he plans to stream the game with the same community that showed up for him.
GTA VI is set for Nov. 19. The title has already been delayed more than once, and other fans facing serious illness have spoken publicly about hoping to see it. Fort’s straightforward hospital clip and the speed of the response from players gave this story extra weight. Comments ranged from promises that the community would buy him a copy to simple statements of belief that both the transplant and the release date would arrive in time.
The fundraiser is still active. Jerry Fort remains in the hospital awaiting the procedure. The people who found his video continue to donate and check in, hoping he gets the chance to play the game he has been waiting for.
