Gervonta Davis K.O. Leo Santa Cruz, Wins WBA + Eyes Lopez Next

Tank achieved a highlight reel moment last Saturday, against Santa Cruz, to remain undefeated and become a two-division world champion.

In San Antonio and on Showtime PPV, the Baltimore world champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (24-0) stopped a relentless Leo Santa Cruz (37-2-1) in the sixth round with a powerful uppercut that saw a lifeless Cruz hit the canvas. Davis’ victory stripped Santa Cruz of his WBA super junior lightweight title and made himself the WBA super junior lightweight champion.

Before the knockout, Davis was up in the scorecards three rounds. A potential “Knockout of the Year” candidate, this marks Tank’s 23rd knockout in his unpolished record of 24-0. Santa Cruz was transported to the hospital following the knockout. Various entertainers rushed to social media following the fight to congratulate Tank on a powerful victory.

Floyd Mayweather joined Tank after the fight to speak at the post-fight press conference and support the young protege, showering him with words of wisdom. Davis was glad his opponent was ok following knockout. The top of 2020, Atlanta rapper Lil Baby reference Tank’s punching power on the song “Sum 2 Prove” off his new album, My Turn.

Following the win, Davis was instantly questioned about a possible match-up with newly-crowned unified champion Teofimo Lopez, who is also undefeated, for his next bout. Davis told the press he will be leaving the decision of his next bout up to his handlers.

Gervonta Davis is a Mayweather Promotions/Premier Boxing Championship fighter.
