A 24-year-old woman identified on social media as Deaja, better known as DeeMurda, was fatally shot early Sunday morning in Chicago’s Roseland neighborhood, according to police and community reports.
The incident unfolded around 12:49 a.m. in the 10400 block of South Michigan Avenue. Chicago police say a large group had gathered outside when an unknown shooter within or near the crowd opened fire and fled the scene. The 24-year-old woman was struck multiple times and pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center. A 20-year-old woman was also shot multiple times and remains in good condition after being treated at a nearby hospital.
No arrests have been made, and Area 2 detectives continue to investigate the shooting as a homicide. Police have not released a suspect description or motive.
On social media, the victim has been widely identified as DeeMurda, a figure known in Chicago’s local street scene and described by community accounts as a female gang member. Some early posts claimed she was shot in the head and thigh while behind the wheel of an Acura, causing her to crash. Official police statements, however, have only confirmed that the victims were standing outside with a group when the gunfire erupted. Mainstream outlets have not independently verified the vehicle details or her full legal name beyond the age provided by authorities.
The shooting was one of several fatal incidents that night on the South Side. In under three hours, a 61-year-old man was also killed in Englewood and another male victim in South Chicago, while six people were wounded in a separate shooting in Humboldt Park.
