During award season, celebrities are winning trophies left and right. In the music world, new artists are dominating not only the airwaves but also award ceremonies. The 2022 Headies Award, which honors the best in Afrobeats, African Culture, and music, introduced several Nigerian newcomers to the spotlight. After Sunday night, it’s clear that listeners love international artists like Tems and Wizkid. The two artists practically dominated the awards show single-handedly. Though, at the end of the day everyone was a winner.
WizKid & Tems Owned The Headies Awards Show
On September 4th, the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta was definitely on fire. The 15th annual Headies Awards had big plans this year, especially since this marked the first time the show has been held outside of Nigeria. Though, the people in charge of the show definitely went all out this year with the list of winners.
Wizkid and Tems had a remarkable year. Their hit collaboration “Essence” won Song of the Year and Best R&B Single. Additionally, Tems received recognition as Best Female Artist and for her Best R&B Album, If Orange Was A Place. Wizkid’s album Made In Lagos (Deluxe Edition) secured the prestigious Album of the Year award. It was a truly successful year for these Nigerian artists.
Everyone Went Home A Winner
While Tems and Wizkid dominated The 2022 Headies Awards, other artists took home trophies too. Afrobeats artists Patoranking, Burna Boy, FireBoyDML, Ayra Starr and Bnxn each won two awards. Ayra Starr had a major triumph at the 2022 Headies Awards, winning Digital Artist of the Year and The Headies’ Viewers’ Choice for her song “Bloody Samaritan.” The event was a resounding success.
