Dave Bautista did not go unnoticed by his fans and Hollywood. With his towering physique, Bautista said he was able to reach 315 pounds for the filming of Knock at the Cabin. Though it was a means to an end to create such an intimidating character on-screen, Bautista confessed that at this point, he was nowhere near comfortable. “It was hard to carry around,” he said, showing that with the quite rapid weight gain came physical discomforts that made his day-to-day life uncomfortable.
It helped him personify the towering character on screen, but as Bautista said, it’s hard to keep up and made him feel so bad inside. For this reason, he shed pounds once the filming was about to get wrapped up, and he did it for personal comfort and professional goals.
Bautista was able to drop a significant amount of weight, peeling off from his peak to a more manageable figure. He felt that he could now strike a great balance between maintaining his strong, athletic build and looking more natural on screen. “Even at my current weight, I still feel huge next to most actors,” he said. “But this version of me is more comfortable.”
Things were not exactly entirely smooth with Bautista’s transformation, though. The more slender the figure of Bautista got, the more some fans alarmed others, to the extent even of suggesting that he was ill with some health problem. Bautista moments later took care of the situation, saying his weight loss was premeditated for both physical and professional reasons.
He has complemented this with Jiu-Jitsu and all other forms of workouts to keep fit and ensure strength with agility. “I train hard, but it’s no more about getting as big as possible. It’s about feeling strong and comfortable in my own skin.”
But the impact of this weight loss extends beyond the merely physical as far as Bautista’s career is concerned. Over the years, the actor has starred in action-heavy movies such as “Guardians of the Galaxy” often finding himself typecast in various roles that seemed to brand him. Bautista, however, has always looked toward playing more diverse, even nuanced, characters.
This new look has brought new opportunities to Bautista, who can now tackle a wider range of roles that may have been previously unavailable. “I look better on camera now, and I feel like I can take on roles that are less about my physicality and more about my craft.”
