Yesterday February 17, 2026 this clip from Danny Boy’s chat on The Art of Dialogue just blew up on X, courtesy of @mymixtapez. It may only be 56 seconds long, but man, it has a punch: Danny Boy just straight-up roasting Snoop Dogg for giving him what turned out to be a fake Death Row chain. Before you knew it, it notched well over a million views, thousands of likes, and sparked all sorts of arguments online, bringing all those good old hip-hop beefs right back into the fray.
For those who may not recall, Danny Boy aka Daniel Steward got his start in the ’90s West Coast rap scene as a singer affiliated with Death Row Records. He laid down those killer hooks on 2Pac joints like “I Ain’t Mad at Cha” and “To Live & Die in L.A.,” basically becoming one of the signature voices from the label’s heyday. Snoop Dogg, aka Calvin Broadus Jr., is the legend who dropped bangers on Death Row early on, then branched out into all kinds of business and media stuff. These days, he straight-up owns the label.

The beef boils down to this scene from the early 2000s, during the video shoot for Snoop’s “So High” off his 2002 album Paid tha Cost to Be da Boss. Danny Boy says Snoop pulled the chain off his own neck and slapped it on him right there in front of everybody, like some big public moment.
“I took it to a jeweler to get it cleaned up,”
He says in the interview,
“and the guy tells me it’s bogus cubic zirconia instead of diamonds, probably not even real gold. Worth nothing.”
That hit Danny Boy like a ton of bricks. He felt straight-up embarrassed, strutting around with what he thought was the real deal. And get this: back in his west side Chicago hood, flashing jewelry like that can be risky business.
“People see what looks like a pricey Death Row piece, they might come after you thinking it’s legit,”
He explained, saying it could’ve put his safety on the line. In hip-hop culture, especially in the States, real ice is more than bling it’s a symbol of making it, of cred. Fakes? They can tank your rep and invite all kinds of trouble in places where status symbols hit hard.
X went wild almost immediately. Folks were dunking on Danny Boy, calling him bitter or just out for clout, with takes like
“Dude probably tried to hock it and got salty when it was junk.”
But there were plenty of people who came to his defense as well, saying that a gift like that from Snoop, especially in public, is not to be underestimated in the game. As of today, February 18, 2026, Snoop has not clapped back at all. Just situations like this prove that old music beefs can ignite huge online firestorms overnight.
Danny Boy didn’t hold back either he linked it to deeper issues, labeling Snoop a “snake” and even
“worse than Suge Knight.”
He griped about a shady contract too:
“Snoop hooked me up with just $7,000 after the producers took their cut,”
Painting it as part of a pattern of getting screwed over from their Death Row era.
