Sure, in the beginning, Equinox and SoulCycle were everything a workout junkie’s dreams, but for some, like Chrissy Teigen, that’s all about to change.
The chairman and majority owner of the company that owns both Equinox and SoulCycle is a Donald Trump supporter, making Chrissy Teigen mad. Stephen Ross is planning on holding a party on Friday, where guests need to make a donation to President Trump’s political campaign. The donations will range anywhere from $5,600 to $250,000, according to The Blast.s dreams.
However, now that people know Ross and Trump are pals they believe the gym’s image is fake. How can you advocate for equality and inclusion AND support Trump’s racist agenda?
Equinox and SoulCycle are where a lot of people choose to go to achieve their fitness goals.
It just doesn’t make sense, so Chrissy Teigen is calling for a boycott.
In Chrissy Teigen’s video, she asks for her close friends and family to cancel their memberships to the Equinox and the other gym.
“Just think about it. If you’re fine with that [the fundraiser], cool. Go right ahead. But if you’re not, and I know a lot of you are not fine with that, cancel.”
Chrissy does not like the president, and her message has influenced others to join in the boycott. Other celebrities reacted and are now canceling their memberships too.
In response to the mass backlash, a spokesperson released a statement on both gyms behalf.
“Neither Equinox nor SoulCycle have anything to do with the event later this week and do not support it. As is consistent with our policies, no company profits are used to fund politicians. “
It continues:
We are committed to all our members and the communities we live in. We believe in tolerance and equality, and will always stay true to those values. Mr. Ross is a passive investor and is not involved in the management of either business.”
As for Ross, he stands by his right to endorse whichever president he likes, and the party will go on.
