Chadwick Boseman On Howard University Building

Howard University Honors Chadwick Boseman’s Legacy

It’s only been a year since the death of late actor Chadwick Boseman.

Boseman starred in Marvel’s first black superhero movie, “The Black Panther.” He has also won 55 awards and 96 nominations.

    Renaming The Fine Arts Building

Chadwick graduated from Howard University, where he received a BFA in Directing from the College of Fine Arts in 2000. The iconic actor was passionate about the arts within spaces like HBCUs, so he was against merging the College of Fine Arts with the College of Arts & Sciences.

According to Howard University President Wayne A. I. Frederick,

Chadwick truly loved Howard University, and even though he couldn’t see those plans come to life, I am proud to carry forward his legacy with the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts.

In 2018, Howard announced plans to reinstate the art school to stand on its own. And it’s no coincidence that during the same time, Chadwick Boseman was a commencement speaker at the HBCU’s graduation, where he gave a memorable speech along with the iconic Wakanda Forever gesture.

The iconic actor was passionate about his philanthropic efforts and emphasized the importance and magic behind HBCUs. This is why Howard University announced renaming the College of Fine Arts after the “Ma Rainey” actor.

Along with Howard’s College of Fine Arts renaming, Walt Disney Company’s chairman Bob Iger also added to Chadwick’s legacy. Bob Iger not only promised a state-of-the-art facility to the university but addition an endowment.

“Chadwick Boseman was a remarkably talented, charismatic, and kind-hearted individual. His incredible skills and selfless nature shone brightly in his iconic portrayals, such as King T’Challa in ‘Black Panther,’ and his unwavering dedication to making a positive impact,” stated Iger.“

The late 43-year-old actor’s legacy continues. Chadwick Boseman will always be remembered by many fans, friends, and HBCU alum due to his perfectly curated legacy.
