Professional boxer Hannah “Hanarchy” Rapp, a 26-year-old rising featherweight contender from Yorktown, Indiana, died from injuries sustained when a motorist allegedly reversed his vehicle into her while she was cycling on a rural road in Brazos County, Texas, in what authorities describe as a road rage incident.
The collision took place shortly before 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026, in the 23000 block of FM 159 near Millican. Rapp was riding her bicycle alongside her boyfriend when 31-year-old Charles Medina of the nearby Navasota area passed the pair at high speed and came within roughly one foot of them. Her boyfriend raised his arms in reaction to the close pass. Medina then slammed on his brakes, skidded to a stop, shifted the vehicle into reverse and accelerated backward rapidly, striking Rapp and knocking her into the roadway. Physical evidence included skid marks from braking followed by reversing, along with significant damage to the rear of Medina’s vehicle where the hatch was crushed inward and the rear window was completely shattered. Medina told investigators he believed the cyclists were trying to flag him down and that he had reversed at approximately 15 miles per hour, but the damage and evidence at the scene did not match that description according to authorities.
First responders provided emergency medical care at the scene before transporting Rapp to a nearby hospital. She did not die at the location of the crash. Despite lifesaving efforts she succumbed to her injuries later that same day at the hospital. The impact from the reversing vehicle caused her to be knocked down with force, and reports indicate she suffered head trauma after hitting the rear window of the car during the collision. Authorities have not released a specific official cause of death beyond injuries sustained in the incident, but the sequence points to blunt force trauma from the vehicle strike as the fatal factor.
Medina was arrested and charged with manslaughter. He remains in custody at the Brazos County Detention Center on a $250,000 bond. Court and jail records show he has been booked into the Brazos County jail multiple times since 2012 on charges including reckless driving, assault, family violence, theft, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and deadly conduct. Investigators have stated they believe the incident was isolated and continue to actively gather evidence and review all available information.
Rapp grew up in Yorktown, Indiana, near Muncie, and competed in track and field at Purdue University, where she earned a degree in environmental and ecological engineering in 2022. She faced personal challenges after being cut from the track team during the pandemic and later found boxing in 2021, progressing quickly through the amateur ranks before turning professional in April 2024. She compiled a professional boxing record that included a North American Boxing Federation (NABF) featherweight title victory and multiple knockouts, finishing with an 8-1-1 record. In her most recent bout on June 13, 2026, she challenged Tiara Brown for the WBC women’s featherweight world title in Orlando, Florida, under the Most Valuable Promotions banner and lost a unanimous decision after building significant momentum in the sport. She balanced her boxing career with a full-time role as a fire and life safety inspector at Texas A&M University in College Station, where she had moved in 2024 with her boyfriend.
The boxing community reacted with widespread grief and tributes to the rising talent known by her nickname Hanarchy. World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman described her as an exceptional boxer and invaluable member of the boxing family. Her title fight opponent Tiara Brown called her the best dance partner she had ever faced professionally and praised her graciousness even while preparing for their bout. Rapp’s promoter, Most Valuable Promotions, also issued a statement honoring her talent, character and the lasting impression she made on everyone she met.
