A video circulating online this week that appears to show armed federal agents entering a San Antonio home has prompted calls for a federal investigation from U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro and drawn responses from city officials and community advocates.
The footage, recorded by a resident and later shared with local news outlets, shows multiple uniformed officers in tactical gear pushing through the front entrance of a residence and confronting individuals inside. According to local reports, the agents’ uniforms were marked “POLICE,” though no visible Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) insignia appear in the video, and no warrant is shown on camera.
Castro, who represents the San Antonio area in Congress, described the video as “deeply disturbing” and said he has requested a formal review of the incident. In public remarks, he characterized the entry as resembling a “home invasion” and said he has contacted the Department of Homeland Security and other federal agencies seeking clarification on whether the operation complied with constitutional and agency protocols.
The homeowner, identified in local media as Maggie Guillen, told reporters that legal residents — including children — were inside the home at the time of the entry. She said agents later acknowledged they were searching for the wrong person. No arrests were reported in connection with the incident.
San Antonio city officials also responded following the video’s circulation. Multiple members of the City Council asked staff to examine potential avenues to hold federal law enforcement accountable, while community organizations launched a petition calling for a formal investigation into the agents’ actions.
The incident comes amid heightened scrutiny of ICE operations in Texas following a series of recent enforcement actions and facility expansions.
At the time the video surfaced, ICE and the Department of Homeland Security had not issued a public response, according to local outlets, though reporters said federal officials were contacted for comment.
Castro said he will continue seeking documentation and explanations related to the operation. “Everyone in this country — including immigrants and their families — deserves to have their Fourth Amendment rights respected,” his office said in a statement.
