Jojo Pellegrino Drops Halloween Themed Visual For “Reaper”

1

Jojo Pellegrino is back with his latest Halloween themed visual “Reaper.” Taking shots at mainstream rappers such as Eminem, Post Malone, Lil Dicky, and Macklemore, Jojo Pellegrino sustains an affinity for true lyrical prowess. But he is no stranger to the game. With cosigns from fellow hip-hop heads like Joe Budden (which can be seen in the opening visual), he too is tired of the lazy approach of mainstream rap artists.

The music visual takes on the same rapid intensity as the track. From the graffiti-laden warehouse to a cathedral-like tower and grim reapers, Jojo Pellegrino is looking to kill everyone in the game.

And to be honest… he did.

Watch: Eugy X King Promise-“Dance For Me”

0

After almost 60 million streams of his global smash ‘Dance For Me’ and two MOBO Award nominations, Eugy today commences a new deal with Disturbing London by dropping his new track ‘L.O.V.E.’ The Ghana-born, London-based artist’s latest features another Ghanaian star in the shape of ‘Selfish’ and ‘CCTV’ hit-maker King Promise.

‘L.O.V.E.’ is an intoxicating blend of Afrobeats rhythms with the feel-good vibes of highlife, making for a joyous and uplifting track that can transcend borders. Eugy’s golden vocal tone takes that positive energy to new heights, while King Promise brings his own distinctive flavour. ‘L.O.V.E.’ echoes the spirit of Wizkid and DaVido and features production from Oge Beats.

It’s a song which explores how romance moves in complicated and often unexpected ways. As Eugy explains, “Sometimes in relationships things aren’t as simple as you’d wish. Maybe the honeymoon period has finished, you have your first argument and you have to overcome that. My Dad has always told me that a relationship is a work-in-progress. No matter what comes up, as long as the love is real and genuine it should carry you through.”
Eugy moved from London to Ghana as a child. His early life in Ghana shaped his future self, but even in London it was never too far away. The soundtrack to his early years was highlife stars such as Daddy Lumba and Koko Antwi, as well as the inspiring gospel sounds from his father’s church. That’s where he and his siblings first discovered their flair for music.

At the same time, he also admired superstars such as Biggie and Puff Daddy, and London’s UK garage scene was also vital to the youngster. As garage evolved into grime, Eugy became an MC in the lineage of So Solid Crew, Kano, D Double E, Dizzee Rascal and Wiley.

“I’d say being a grime MC is my best musical form,” he admits, “but everything about the African side of things is who I really am. If you strip away everything else, you’ll see this young African boy who came from Ghana.”

Eugy relentlessly worked his way into the industry, playing any open mics or unpaid gigs he could to build an under-the-radar following. He started posting weekly freestyle videos on Instagram, mixing lyrics in English and his native Twi language. Supported by @chopdaily, they quickly grew a following among fans and industry alike.

That resulted in DaVido sliding into his DMs and then their first collaboration together on Eugy’s official debut single ‘Chance’. Things would continue to heat up when he joined forces with Mr. Eazi on ‘Dance For Me’. They knew they had something special and Eugy hoped it would be his first track to hit a million streams. Almost 60 million streams later, it’s taken on a life of its own.

Eugy cites Fuse ODG as a role model and pioneer – not only for his music and his ability to mix languages, but also for his dedication to providing new opportunities for the Ghanaian people and how he’s helping to shape a new perception for Africa as a whole.

The success of ‘Dance For Me’ is a continual inspiration for Eugy’s ever-brightening future. “I look at the stats every day! For me, it’s a reminder: I’ve done it before and I can do it again.” And ‘L.O.V.E.’ could be his chance to achieve exactly that.

Here Are 3 Tips For Competing With Other Rappers

Every rapper wants to be the next breakout artist. However, there are thousands of rappers and only a few people who can have that title. This is what makes hip-hop such a competitive genre. Everyone wants to be next Jay-Z or the next Drake. If you’re a new artist, trying to make a name for yourself, this could be intimidating. You have the chance to make it, just like all artists that you’re competing against. But, you’ll need to stand out. Here are some tips for doing that.

  1. Develop your style

Here Are 3 Tips For Competing-1

If you turn on the radio, you’ll likely hear a catchy song from a new artist you haven’t heard of. You’ll probably keep hearing the song for a few weeks and vaguely know the artist. After a while, the song will become played out and you’ll likely never hear anything from that artist again.  Artists come and go like this all the time, becoming one hit wonders.

If you are going to stay in this game longer, you need to a niche; you need something that makes you different from other rappers. Your audience has to see you apart from the average MC. For instance, Childish Gambino markets himself as the nerdy black guy. Chance the Rapper portrays himself as the nice guy. Kendrick Lamar shows the world that he is a woke street philosopher. Find an aspect of yourself that is special to you, and make that your brand.

  1. Hone your lyricism

Here Are 3 Tips For Competing-2

Just about anyone can come up with a few decent lines, mix it with a beat, and call that fusion a song. Although, not everyone, can craft bar after bar of clever lyrics. If you want to better than other rappers, you’ll need to constantly work on your lyrics. People remember lines like “They say the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice, I say the dark skin and the deeper the roots.” The greatest rappers in history are seen as great because of their words. It takes actual skill to get recognition in Hip Hop. If you want that recognition, then you need to develop your skills as much as you can.

  1. Social Media

Here Are 3 Tips For Competing-3

It uses to be that you would hand out your mixtape on the corner or at a barbershop. The digital hand has changed that. Online is where most music promotion is done now. To reach fans online, you’ll need to know how social media works. While it may seem like it’s just random people posting random ideas, there is actually a social science to when people look at their feeds and what they look at. By understanding social media, you can reach a larger audience and spread your name.

If you really want to be the next great rapper, fight for it. But, fight smart. Know what to do and know how to get it done. Set up a plan for starting your career and then do it.
