Bianca Dias, 27, Dies After Plastic Surgery: Brazilian Influencer’s Tragic Passing

Bianca Dias, 27, died Thursday after reportedly suffering a pulmonary embolism while recovering at her family’s home near São Paulo, according to TMZ. The medical emergency occurred just 18 days after she underwent surgery, though the specific procedure has not been publicly disclosed.

Dias is said to have experienced sudden shortness of breath during her recovery. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors were unable to save her.

Friend Giovanna Borges confirmed the news in a statement shared to Instagram, revealing that Dias suffered a pulmonary clot and two seizures before her death.

“Bia had surgery, and in recovery at home, she had a pulmonary clot, had 2 seizures, and when she arrived at the hospital, she was no longer alive….” Borges wrote on her Instagram Story.

A pulmonary embolism — also known as pulmonary thromboembolism — occurs when a blood clot, often formed in the legs following surgery or prolonged immobility, travels to the lungs and blocks blood flow. The condition can escalate quickly and is considered one of the most serious potential complications after major surgical procedures, including certain aesthetic operations.

Authorities are reportedly reviewing the circumstances surrounding Dias’ surgery and recovery. As of now, there have been no public allegations of malpractice, and officials have not indicated that criminal wrongdoing is suspected.

Dias had built a following of nearly 60,000 on Instagram, where she shared lifestyle and modeling content. Her bio read, in part, “Living at my own pace, without rush and with purpose.” Her posts often featured fashion-forward looks and motivational captions. She last shared a photo on Dec. 18 — a selfie taken inside a car in São Paulo.

News of her death prompted an outpouring of tributes from followers and friends, many expressing shock at the sudden loss. She is survived by her two young daughters.

Her death has also reignited conversation around the risks associated with elective cosmetic procedures, particularly among young influencers navigating image-driven social media spaces. According to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, pulmonary thromboembolism accounts for approximately 35% of cosmetic surgery–related deaths among American patients who travel abroad for procedures, underscoring how embolic events remain a leading — and often preventable — hazard when proper screening and post-operative care are not followed.

In the hours following the announcement of her death, tributes poured in from friends and followers. Massage therapist and close friend Jeff Carlos remembered her in an emotional message, writing, “Death is nothing at all. Our bond has not been broken.”

Fellow content creator Patrícia Ganden also paid tribute on Instagram. “I just know that we had beautiful moments, incredible conversations, may God comfort the family, I will remember with much affection and pride of you,” she wrote.

Dias’ passing follows other high-profile cases in Brazil’s influencer community. In 2023, influencer Lygia Fazio died following complications reportedly linked to cosmetic injections, while Fernanda Britto died in 2018 after undergoing plastic surgery, prompting renewed scrutiny of the country’s booming aesthetic industry.

Brazil consistently ranks among the world’s leaders in cosmetic procedures. While the vast majority are performed without incident, medical experts stress that even routine surgeries carry inherent risks, particularly in the weeks immediately following an operation.
