Atlanta Police Reveal New Details of Rich Homie Quan’s Late-Night Collapse at Home

The sudden death of rapper Rich Homie Quan, whose real name was Dequantes Lamar, in Atlanta at age 34 sent shockwaves throughout the music world. New details from an incident report, released by the Atlanta Police, are shedding light on the heartbreaking moments leading up to Quan’s death in the early hours of 5th September 2024.

According to the report, he was found unconscious in the kitchen of his Atlanta home at around 3 am by his brother, Andre Munford, who often stayed over at Quan’s house. He noted how unusual the scene was. “He found Quan on one of the floors with food still in his mouth, something that disturbed him so much.

“I didn’t know what to think,”

Munford told police.

“He was just there, on the floor, like he was eating and then everything just stopped.”

Munford

Munford immediately transferred Quan to the living room sofa, hoping probably his brother was just tired or needed some rest. He never knew this would be the last time he saw Quan alive.

It wasn’t until hours later that his girlfriend, Amber Williams, who had been in and out of the house earlier that morning, would find him. She had gone out to take her child to school but afterward returned home. Quan was still on the couch, and she thought he was sleeping. So she covered him with a blanket and then continued her day.

It wasn’t until hours later that she returned, and that chilling reality set in. Williams noticed Quan wasn’t breathing, and a little foam was in his mouth. Panicked, she dialed 911.

“I thought he was just sleeping,”

Williams tearfully told investigators.

“I had no idea it was something so serious.”

Other people present around the scene called paramedics, who took Quan to Grady Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. According to the police, as far as they can tell at this time, there is no indication of foul play on any account. The cause of his death is yet to be determined and is pending autopsy results.

“We are waiting on results from the autopsy to, you know, understand what happened,”

said an Atlanta Police spokesperson.

“We at this point are continuing our investigation, but there’s no indication of any criminal activity involved.”

For Quan’s family, the loss is sudden and surreal. Munford characterized his brother as “the heartbeat of our family,” one who had never faltered in keeping spirits high despite life’s challenges.

“Quan wasn’t just a rapper,”

Munford said.

“He was a father, a brother, a son. To see him go like this… it doesn’t feel real.”

Still in shock, Williams said they had discussed plans for the future just the night before.

“We were laughing, talking about life, talking about our next steps,”

she said.

“I just never thought this would happen.”

News of Quan’s passing send shockwaves through the Atlanta music community, as well as fans worldwide. With his distinctive voice and connection to his upbringing, Rich Homie Quan was an integral part of the shaping of the Atlanta hip-hop scene into what it is today, an inspiration to so many of today’s artists with raw and emotive lyrics.

“I grew up on his music,”

one fan shared on the social media platform.

“It feels like we’ve lost one of the real ones. His music wasn’t just about hits-it was about life, struggles, and dreams. He was Atlanta.”

Fellow musicians have also expressed their tributes to him, recalling him to be a trendsetter who gave the rap game authenticity and heart.

“Quan was one of the most genuine artists out here,”

an emotional statement from an Atlanta-based producer who had worked with him in the past.

“His voice, his energy-you felt it in every track.”

While fans wait on more information coming out of the investigation, so many are calling for ways to keep Rich Homie Quan’s memory alive.

Whether it is through a tribute, the celebration of music, or with continued support to his family, Rich Homie Quan has left an indelible mark in Atlanta and beyond. For now, those closest to him must live with a profound loss: father to his children, partner to Amber Williams, brother to Andre Munford, and idol to many fans.
