The underwhelming Verzuz battle between Foolish singer Ashanti and “I should have cheated” singer Keyshia Cole was definitely one for the books. For those fans who missed the battle, here are 5 key highlights.
For those who can recall, this battle was highly anticipated. After being shut down twice, once because Ashanti caught COVID, and second because of COVID-19 restrictions, it finally took place on January 21st. The night was supposed to begin at 8pm as fans waited impatiently for the two singers to start.
Better Late than Never:
The Verzuz battle didn’t officially begin until an hour after its official start time. Due to technical difficulties, we were left with empty seats and DJ’s playing random music.

The real winner of the night was Bernie Sanders. His iconic inauguration photo, now turned meme began trending as fans grew aggravated. The meme definitely lightening the mood, making its rounds around the internet.
O.T. Genasis Surprise Appearance:
Fans were shocked when O.T Genasis joined Keyshia Cole during her song, “Love.”
If readers can remember, the two musicians had an ongoing beef after the rapper shared his rendition of the Keyshia Cole Song. After the remixed version became an internet sensation, she admitted that she felt disrespected because he didn’t contact her to use the song. Soon a feud ensued – with back and forth disses on social media. The rapper even went as far as to ridicule K Keyshia’s mother for being addicted to drugs. This reunion didn’t sit too well with Cole’s sister. Elite Noel took to social media to express her disapproval.
