A completed season of a major Swedish reality show vanished from production servers just five weeks before its planned premiere. The finished edits of The Challenge Sverige are gone. The backup system failed. The premiere that was set for November 22, 2026, has been pushed to 2027.
The viral story about wiping out the whole season by an AI agent was posted on October 15, 2026, by a popular account @pubity on X. This story was based on a claim made by the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet citing unnamed sources who claimed that the company Mastiff had given the AI agent access to their servers.
The Challenge Sverige is Sweden’s version of the long-running American reality competition franchise The Challenge. Contestants face physical and mental tests for a big cash prize. Season 2, produced by Mastiff for broadcaster TV4 and hosted by comedian Ahmed Berhan, was filmed on Gotland. It was ready to air until the finished edit disappeared.
TV4 confirmed the loss. Press officer Ludvig Ternstedt said a “technical failure” caused the edited material to vanish, forcing the team to start over from the surviving raw footage. Program director Mia Lindqvist was clear about the scale of the problem:
“The big problem is that Mastiff’s backup didn’t work… We have to recut it from scratch. All the raw material is still there.”
Estimates of the lost work range from about 100 days (TV4’s figure) to several hundred days according to Aftonbladet’s sources.
Aftonbladet’s anonymous sources pointed to an AI agent. TV4 pushed back hard. Lindqvist told Swedish Radio:
“It is not true that it was some independent AI agent that deleted the material.”
Later statements from the broadcaster pointed to human factors at Mastiff and the failed backup as the core issues. Mastiff CEO Matilda Snöwall referred questions to TV4 and did not confirm the AI claim.
When Aftonbladet told host Ahmed Berhan about the AI allegation, he responded with dark humor:
“Is that true?! I knew AI would be the death of me. This is just the beginning.”
He later added,
“Some days you just have to accept that you’re living in a fucking sitcom.”
However, AI agents are able to take action on files given the appropriate permissions. This poses significant dangers if there is no backup system or if access control is not effective enough. It serves as proof of why it is necessary to have stringent permissions and human oversight in place.
The finished edit of The Challenge Sverige is gone. The backup failed. The premiere is delayed until 2027. Those facts are confirmed by TV4. The claim that an independent AI agent deleted the season remains an allegation from anonymous sources and has been denied by the broadcaster. The story is a cautionary tale about production safeguards more than a confirmed case of rogue AI.
