Comedian Carrot Top, whose real name is Scott Christopher Thompson, was hospitalized in Las Vegas on Friday after a reported suicide attempt, according to sources familiar with the situation.
TMZ first reported that the 61-year-old longtime Las Vegas performer made the attempt in the Las Vegas area on September 18, 2026, and was taken to a local hospital. His scheduled show that night at the Luxor Hotel and Casino was canceled as a result.
Thompson’s representative, Jami Schlicher, confirmed he is receiving treatment. “Mr. Thompson is recovering in the hospital and is receiving the care and support he needs,” Schlicher said. “His family and those closest to him are deeply grateful for the concern, prayers and respectfully ask for privacy.”
An MGM Resorts International spokesman said Scott is a beloved member of the Luxor and MGM Resorts family. The company expressed relief that he is recovering and extended support as he receives care.
Thompson has headlined the Atrium Showroom at the Luxor since November 2005, holding the longest-running residency in Las Vegas. His high-energy prop comedy shows typically run Monday through Saturday. Saturday’s performance was also canceled, while later dates remained listed for sale as of Friday night.
Thompson was seen earlier Friday afternoon at about 2 p.m. at Finney’s Crafthouse in Downtown Summerlin, seated at the bar with two companions, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Born February 25, 1965, in Rockledge, Florida, Thompson built his career on prop comedy after early appearances on “Comic Strip Live” and “Star Search” in the early 1990s. He recorded the special “Carrot Top Rocks Las Vegas” in 2003 and has maintained a steady presence on the Strip for more than two decades.
The hospitalization coincides with ongoing civil litigation in Florida. Singer Brian Evans filed suits against Thompson alleging he sent an unsolicited sexually explicit video and seeking to void a 2024 settlement agreement. A second man, Zachary Defazio, filed a sworn declaration supporting related claims of misconduct dating to 2021. The matters remain civil disputes in Florida courts, and Thompson has not been charged with any crime in connection with them.
Thompson has been in a long-term relationship with Las Vegas-based businesswoman Amanda Hogan since around 2014. Hogan operates a catering company.
No further details about Thompson’s medical condition or a potential return date to the stage have been released. His representatives and the resort have asked for privacy during his recovery.
