Apple is turning up the volume on hardware with what it’s calling its biggest-ever product slate yet, and fans are already buzzing about the iPhone 18 Pro models and the long-awaited debut of its first true foldable smartphone.
The company announced a special “Surprise & Shine” event for Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. PT, marking the first major showcase under new CEO John Ternus. No standard iPhone 18 this fall — instead, the focus is squarely on premium Pro models and Apple’s big-form-factor leap with the foldable, which has been the talk of the tech world since leaks began circulating earlier this year.
Pre-orders and shipping are expected to hit stores right after the live keynote, which will stream on apple.com, the Apple TV app, and YouTube.
iPhone 18 Pro & Pro Max Get a Quiet, Meaningful Refresh
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max keep the familiar slim, high-end design but roll out several upgrades that feel like evolutionary steps instead of revolutionary ones.
Design stays close to the iPhone 17 Pro lineup. New colors include Dark Cherry (a deep, rich red), Light Blue, and silver. The frosted back glass gets a subtle two-tone contrast treatment, though not as pronounced as in past years. The iPhone 18 Pro Max might end up a touch thicker and heavier thanks to a larger battery, but cases from the previous Pro should still work.
On the display front, expect a more refined Dynamic Island with improved LTPO+ OLED efficiency. No under-display Face ID is in the cards.
Performance is where things get interesting. The A20 Pro chip, built on TSMC’s 2nm process, should deliver 10-18% better performance than the A19 Pro. It includes a 7-core GPU, wider memory interface, bigger L2 cache, and 12GB of RAM — a setup that’s primed for AI tasks.
Battery life is another big upgrade. Video playback could stretch to 36 hours on the Pro and 44 hours on the Pro Max, thanks to smarter power management and a larger capacity (the Max is rumored to top out around 5,567 mAh).
Cameras get the biggest hardware love in years. The main lens on the Pro Max will feature a new DSLR-like variable aperture — opening wider in low light for better exposure and less noise, then narrowing in bright conditions for sharper shots and more creative depth-of-field control. The telephoto lens also receives a wider aperture for improved low-light zoom. Other cameras stay mostly the same, with possible faster stacked sensors from Samsung.
Other details include simplified Camera Control button functionality and Apple’s own C2 modem (mmWave 5G expected on U.S. models). Pricing is set to climb modestly, with pre-orders starting September 12 and shipping on the 18th.
The Foldable iPhone Ultra: Apple’s Book-Style Game Changer
This is the headline act — Apple’s first proper foldable, and it’s coming as a true book-style device that opens wider than it’s tall (think iPad-mini proportions when unfolded).
The design pairs a compact ~5.5-inch OLED outer screen (closed) with a larger ~7.8-inch inner OLED (unfolded, roughly 4:3 aspect ratio). Minimal creasing is the promise, thanks to a durable liquid-metal hinge and optically clear adhesive to smooth out any micro-cracks. The device should measure as thin as 4.5mm when open (9mm folded). MagSafe support is confirmed.
Cameras are dual rear lenses (Ultra Wide + Wide) that work seamlessly in both folded and unfolded states. No telephoto option. The side button switches to Touch ID instead of the usual TrueDepth system.
Performance shares the A20 Pro chip with 12GB RAM. Battery life comes from dual internal packs totaling 5,400–5,800 mAh.
The big software twist is full iOS support with iPad-like multitasking, side-by-side apps, and dynamic handling of different screen sizes and aspect ratios. Apple has already started telling developers to prepare for the varying form factors.
Pricing starts at $2,000 (higher-capacity versions up to about $2,500). Colors are silver/white and a deep indigo. Pre-orders and shipping kick off immediately after the event.

Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 are also in play. Expect a new S12 processor, an optional ceramic case on the Ultra, and advanced all-day heart-rate tracking. Starts at $429 and $829.
AirPods 5 will keep the familiar shape but bring a new H3 chip for better active noise cancellation, lower latency, and improved Siri AI. ANC versions could offer up to 6 hours of battery life, with models starting at $129–$179.
Software updates include iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS Golden Gate, with release candidates likely dropping soon after the event.
No standard iPhone 18 (delayed to spring 2027), entry-level Macs, HomePod mini refresh, or most October/November products. Those shift to later events or press releases.
