The project comes from Instagram creator @daltonm17. Creative director Pablo Rochat shared the video around mid-August 2026 with a simple caption:

Here’s how it works, according to the reports. A standard tennis ball gets sliced open. Inside goes a compact circuit with a tiny impact or shock sensor. The ball is resealed so it still plays and bounces like normal. That sensor detects the jolt from a racket or the court, then wirelessly triggers a Bluetooth speaker sitting courtside. The speaker fires off a pre-loaded human-style grunt right on cue.
Important clarification the ball itself is not the speaker. The sound comes from the external Bluetooth unit. The sensor just cues the audio so the timing feels seamless. Videos show the parts laid out on court circuit boards, sensor, tape, cut balls, and the black portable speaker before the creator hits and rallies with the finished version.
Tennis fans got the joke instantly. Grunting has been part of the pro game for decades. Monica Seles helped popularize it in the early 1990s. Maria Sharapova became famous for her powerful versions. Debates still flare over whether the noise is pure effort, a rhythm tool, or a distraction that masks the sound of the ball coming off the strings.
