Bellevue Mother & Daughter Arrested After Flaunting Stolen Louis Vuitton on TikTok

A mother and daughter from the Bellevue/Kent area are facing charges after police say they stole over $7,000 worth of Louis Vuitton handbags from a Seattle Nordstrom and then posted a video flaunting the items on social media.

Janeice Renee Downs, also known as Janeice Smith or “Punchy,” and her mother, Janeice Wiley, were arrested on June 12, 2026, in the parking lot of Westfield Southcenter mall. Downs, a repeat offender, had been released from prison just months earlier after serving time for leading a large-scale organized retail theft ring.

According to Bellevue police and King County prosecutors, Downs and an accomplice stole two Louis Vuitton handbags from the downtown Seattle Nordstrom on June 6. Surveillance footage captured the pair distracting a store employee before making off with the merchandise. Downs allegedly wore a burqa-style full-face covering as a disguise—a tactic she had used in previous thefts.

The very next day, a TikTok video was posted showing Wiley holding and dancing with the stolen luxury bags to Yung Miami’s “Spend Dat.” The bags also appeared on Downs’ Instagram account. Investigators used the social media posts, along with matching details from surveillance footage such as distinctive white-painted toenails, black sandals, and the disguise, to link the family directly to the theft.

“This is a classic case of self-snitching,” one law enforcement source familiar with the investigation noted, highlighting how social media evidence has increasingly helped close retail theft cases in the region.

Downs is no stranger to the criminal justice system. Prior to 2024, she had at least nine convictions dating back to 2013–2018 for theft, assault, robbery, and related offenses. In 2024, Bellevue police dismantled a multi-state organized retail theft ring she allegedly led with her mother Wiley and another accomplice.

The group was accused of stealing between $500,000 and $537,000 in high-end merchandise—primarily Lululemon clothing—from stores across Western Washington, Northern Oregon, and Southern California over at least 42 incidents. A search warrant at Downs’ Kent residence uncovered stolen goods and illegal firearms.

Downs pleaded guilty to multiple counts of first-degree organized retail theft and related charges. She was sentenced in August 2025 to 33 months in prison but was released in January 2026 after receiving credit for time served.

Downs now faces first-degree organized retail theft charges in King County related to the recent Nordstrom theft and possibly other incidents. She is also subject to an Oregon fugitive warrant for 16 additional theft-related counts. She is being held on $215,000 bail, and prosecutors are seeking to keep her in custody as a prolific offender.

Wiley posted a $50,000 bond and was released. Her charges from the earlier 2024 case remain pending.

At Downs’ arraignment, her attorney requested restrictions on media filming, but the judge denied the motion in favor of media access rights.

Bellevue Police Captain Landon Barnwell described Downs as one of the region’s most prolific organized retail theft criminals. He emphasized the importance of coordination between agencies across jurisdictions and noted that these crimes are not victimless.

“They drive up prices for everyone and hurt local businesses,” Barnwell said.

Court proceedings for both women are ongoing. The story has been widely reported by local outlets with video montages circulating on platforms like X showing the incriminating TikTok content, surveillance footage, and mugshots.
