Grammy-Nominated Hip-Hop Producer Tay Keith Has Reportedly Passed Away

Grammy-nominated producer Tay Keith, whose beats powered some of the biggest hits in modern hip-hop and trap, has died at the age of 29.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, the producer — born Brytavious Lakeith Chambers — was found unresponsive in his apartment on Martin Street in Nashville during a welfare check on the afternoon of June 18, 2026. The check was requested by his family. No foul play is suspected, and his death remains unclassified pending autopsy results.

A native of Memphis, Tennessee, born on September 20, 1996, Tay Keith began producing as a teenager around age 14 and quickly emerged as a key architect of the Memphis sound that influenced a generation of rap and trap artists. He was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and maintained a strong presence in the Nashville music scene.

Keith’s production credits include some of the most streamed and commercially successful tracks of the past decade. He co-produced Travis Scott’s 2018 No. 1 hit “Sicko Mode,” Drake’s “Nonstop,” and BlocBoy JB’s “Look Alive” featuring Drake. His work also extended to artists including Beyoncé, Eminem (“Not Alike”), Lil Nas X, Sexyy Red (“Pound Town”), and many others. His signature producer tag, “Tay Keith, fuck these niggas up!,” became a staple in the industry.

The Memphis native earned a Grammy nomination for his contributions and was signed to several prominent deals, including with Drumatized, DOA, and Warner Chappell Music.

News of his passing prompted an outpouring of tributes from the music community. Collaborators such as BlocBoy JB, Key Glock, and HitKidd shared messages of grief and appreciation on social media, while fans and fellow artists expressed shock at the loss of such a young talent. Middle Tennessee State University also acknowledged the passing of its notable alumnus.

Keith was preceded in death by his mother, who passed away in 2021 following a battle with cancer.

This is a developing story. Further updates on the circumstances of his death are expected once autopsy results are released.

Our thoughts are with Tay Keith’s family, friends, and the broader music community during this difficult time.
