Wiz Khalifa Discusses Struggle of Sending Son to School Smelling Like Weed

Wiz Khalifa has drawn renewed attention online after a clip resurfaced in which the rapper discusses his 13-year-old son Sebastian carrying the scent of cannabis to school due to the pervasive aroma in their California home.

In the streaming video, which has circulated widely on platforms like Instagram, TikTok and X this month, Khalifa recounts daily interactions before school: “He goes to school everyday and I’m like you smell like weed bruh? He like ‘uh yeah,’ I’m like f-ck, cause I don’t smoke right by him, my house just smells like kush.”

The Pittsburgh-born artist, a longtime vocal proponent of cannabis who owns the Khalifa Kush strain and brand, clarified that he avoids smoking directly around his son. Still, he described the “house weed smell” as an unavoidable byproduct of his heavy use in a legal state.

The comments echo remarks Khalifa made in January 2024 on the Call Her Daddy podcast, when Sebastian was approximately 10. At the time, he joked about attending parent-teacher conferences while high — “Hell yeah, I’m pulling up stoned… they expect it” — and noted, “I’m pretty sure my son smells like weed.”

Sebastian “Bash” Thomaz, born in 2013, recently celebrated his 13th birthday, with Khalifa sharing moments from the occasion including the customary “birthday punches.” The rapper, who shares custody with ex-wife Amber Rose, has consistently presented himself as an active father, frequently posting about their relationship, music and sports.

Wiz Khalifa on His Son Smelling Like Weed:

Many fans reacted with amusement, offering memes and comments along the lines of “only Wiz,” while others raised concerns about environmental exposure and normalization for a minor. Defenders have noted the passive nature of the exposure and compared it to past generations of cigarette-smoking parents.

Khalifa has not directly addressed the renewed attention as of this writing, continuing to share family content unapologetically.

The episode fits squarely within Khalifa’s long-established public persona. Since breaking through with hits like “See You Again” (featuring Charlie Puth) and maintaining a prolific career in hip-hop, the artist has never shied away from his cannabis-centric lifestyle, which has included branded products, visible smoking setups and repeated references in his music and interviews.

As cannabis remains a prominent element in certain corners of the music industry, Khalifa’s transparency continues to spark debate about authenticity, parenting and the realities of legal weed culture.
