A 93-year-old Australian doctor has become a new father, sparking widespread attention and debate after details of his family life resurfaced online and went viral in October 2025.
Dr. John Levin, a Melbourne-based general practitioner and anti-aging specialist, welcomed a son, Gabby, in February 2024 with his 37-year-old wife, Dr. Yanying Lu. The child was conceived via IVF using donor sperm. Levin was 92 at the time of the birth and turned 93 later that year.
Levin has publicly described himself as mentally sharp and physically capable of parenting, saying he continues to work full-time and maintains an active lifestyle. He attributes his health to a vegetarian diet, intermittent fasting, twice-weekly gym workouts, and more than 30 years of human growth hormone (HGH) therapy.
The story gained renewed traction on social media in late 2025, with users reacting to Levin’s age, the couple’s 56-year age gap, and the broader implications of late-life parenthood made possible through reproductive technology.
Levin, who specializes in anti-aging medicine, has said his focus is on extending “healthspan,” or the number of years lived without serious illness. Some studies suggest HGH therapy can improve muscle mass and bone density in older adults, though medical experts have also cautioned about potential risks associated with long-term use.
Gabby is Levin’s fourth child. He has three adult children from his first marriage, one of whom died in 2024 at age 65 from motor neurone disease, just months after Gabby’s birth. Levin is also a grandfather and great-grandfather.
According to data from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, IVF success rates for women between the ages of 35 and 37 average around 45% per cycle. Lu reportedly became pregnant on the first attempt.
