A disturbing discovery at a Hollywood tow yard has cast a shadow over singer D4vd’s rising star. On Monday, September 8, 2025, Los Angeles police found a decomposing body inside the front trunk, or “frunk,” of a 2023 Tesla registered to the 20-year-old artist D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke. The grim find has raised questions about how the remains ended up in the vehicle, with authorities now investigating the unsettling case. The incident unfolded around 12:20 p.m. at Hollywood Tow, located at 1015 N. Mansfield Ave., near N. La Brea Avenue, when tow yard employees reported a foul odor coming from the impounded Tesla, which bore Texas license plates.
The car had been towed from the Hollywood Hills roughly five days earlier, around September 3 or 4, after being reported abandoned. After multiple complaints about the stench, workers alerted the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). Officers arrived and opened the frunk, discovering human remains inside a bag.
The body was in an advanced state of decomposition, preventing immediate identification or determination of the cause of death, according to the L.A. County Medical Examiner’s Office. The LAPD is treating the case as a death investigation, with forensic tests and coroner analysis underway to uncover more details. Anton Mikel, a Hollywood resident retrieving his own vehicle from the tow yard that afternoon, described the scene to KTLA, saying,
“I’d say that’s pretty horrifying. Nobody wants that. I mean, we live here, so that’s kind of gross.”
Mikel noted a significant police presence but only learned the full extent of the situation later.
Another local, John Rosenstein, also spoke to KTLA, remarking,
“It’s not really a surprise,”
possibly reflecting the area’s familiarity with unusual incidents. Aerial footage captured by Sky5 showed yellow crime scene tape surrounding the Tesla, with a white canopy set up nearby, likely to shield the investigation as officers and a police photographer documented the scene. At the time of the discovery, D4vd was on his “Withered” world tour, having performed in Madison, Wisconsin, the previous night. He posted on social media on September 8, confirming he was alive and well, and was scheduled to perform in Minneapolis on September 9, with a Los Angeles show set for September 18 at the Greek Theatre.
Neither D4vd nor his representatives have commented publicly on the incident, leaving fans and observers speculating. Tesla’s registration to David Anthony Burke, as confirmed by authorities, has drawn attention, but no direct connection to the singer has been established, and he faces no charges at this time. D4vd, born in Queens, New York, and raised in Houston, Texas, is a singer-songwriter known for blending alternative pop, R&B, and indie rock.
