A wave of relief swept through Milwaukee this weekend after 7-year-old Jamal White, affectionately known as “Baby J,” was found safe less than 24 hours after being kidnapped at gunpoint near his home. The alarming abduction, captured on surveillance footage, triggered a massive search and culminated in the arrest of a 25-year-old suspect.

The kidnapping occurred around 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 11, near 61st and Hustis Streets. Jamal was riding his bicycle outside his family home when two individuals emerged from a white Jeep Renegade SUV and forcibly abducted him. One of the kidnappers, armed with a gun, was seen on video grabbing Jamal and shoving him into the vehicle.

Surveillance footage obtained by FOX6 News shows the harrowing moment in detail. As Jamal attempted to flee, a man believed to be his father ran into the house—an action speculated to be an effort to alert others or retrieve help. The chilling clip has since circulated widely, highlighting the swift and violent nature of the crime.
Thanks to coordinated efforts by local authorities, an Amber Alert, and community engagement across social media platforms, Jamal was found safe on the evening of July 12 at approximately 6:36 p.m. He was transported to a hospital for evaluation, although specific details about his condition have not been disclosed.
Police arrested 25-year-old Corey Williams in connection with the abduction. While formal charges have not been publicly detailed, law enforcement confirmed that the case was referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
Adding a complex layer to the incident, Jamal’s uncle, 27-year-old Jamel White, was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety. According to police, Jamel fired shots at a slow-moving vehicle near the family’s home during the search for Jamal. The gunfire, believed to be a misguided attempt to protect the family or confront a perceived threat, underscores the tension and desperation surrounding the ordeal.
The case sparked intense public attention, especially on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter). Users rapidly shared details from the Amber Alert, descriptions of the suspect’s vehicle, and real-time updates as the story unfolded. Many praised law enforcement’s quick response and the vigilant citizens’ role in helping to recover the missing child.
As authorities continue to investigate and prosecute those involved, the community remains focused on supporting Jamal and his family in the aftermath of a terrifying ordeal. The case also reignites conversations around child safety, neighborhood surveillance, and community response mechanisms in emergencies.
For now, Milwaukee celebrates a fortunate outcome: a young boy home safe, and a city united in vigilance.
