Megan Thee Stallion’s legal team drops powerful new evidence in Tory Lanez conviction

Megan Thee Stallion’s attorneys released a video montage on May 23, 2025, which according to them, cinches Tory Lanez‘s culpability in the 2020 shooting accident that temporarily left the rapper hurt. The evidence accumulated from court proceedings, witness statements, texts, and correspondence is an attempt to reply and dispel recent allegations from Tory Lanez’s attorneys proclaiming his innocence.

It was in July 2020 when Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Pete, was shot in her feet after becoming involved in a fight following a Hollywood Hills party thrown by Kylie Jenner. Tory Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was indicted for three felonies: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm, and gross negligence for shooting a firearm. In December 2022, Lanez was convicted, and in August 2023, he was sentenced for 10 years in prison without parole. Megan’s own tearful testimony during the trial called what transpired “torture” and explained that after that, she would “never be the same”.

On May 14, 2025, Lanez’s lawyers, together with non-profit organization United the People, held a press briefing in Los Angeles in which they publicly released what they referred to as “compelling new evidence” suggesting Lanez never fired at Megan. They claimed that Kelsey Harris, Megan’s former friend, was the shooter, citing alleged statements from Harris’s bodyguard, Bradley James, and testimony from a witness, Sean Kelly, who saw two women fighting. They also questioned the DNA evidence, alleging only Lanez’s DNA was tested despite “unknown DNA” on the gun, and called for California Governor Gavin Newsom to intervene, citing trial biases.

Megan’s legal team, led by attorney Alex Spiro, swiftly countered with a 31-page slideshow refuting Lanez’s claims, followed by a video released on May 23, 2025, presenting new evidence. The video includes:

  • Text messages from Lanez to Megan on July 12, 2020, where he apologizes for shooting her.
  • Documentation of Lanez’s alleged offer of $1 million in hush money to Megan and Harris.
  • Sworn testimonies corroborating Megan’s account.
  • Forensic evidence showing a 90% likelihood that the DNA on the weapon was male, gunshot residue on Lanez’s hands, and the firearm found under his seat.

Spiro stated,

“Despite Mr. Lanez being convicted at trial by overwhelming evidence (that included his own admission of his guilt), he and his team… have pushed whatever misleading narrative they can”.

The team emphasized that the Ring camera footage cited by Lanez’s team was already presented in court and that Bradley James was not at the scene.
