Amber Heard gave the world a warm update: she had given birth to twins, a daughter named Agnes and a son named Ocean. The news came on Mother’s Day on Instagram with a sweet shot of the twin babies’ small feet next to those of her four-year-old daughter, Oonagh Paige.
“I will never forget Mother’s Day in 2025,”
Heard wrote as her entry was filled with excitement.
“I am so overwhelmed with happiness to mark the completion of the family I have worked to build all these years.”
Heard, who’s 39, called Agnes and Ocean’s arrival a time when her own happiness was tripled.
“When I had my first baby girl Oonagh four years ago, my life was completely turned around,”
she wrote.
“I couldn’t believe I could possibly overflow with any more joy. Well now I am overflowing times three !!!”
The post caught on with fans, who flooded social media with congratulations on Heard’s expanding brood.
Heard’s path to motherhood began in 2021 with the birth of Oonagh Paige via surrogacy, a choice she made to embrace parenthood on her own terms.
“I wish we were at a place now where it’s acceptable to not have a ring to have a crib,”
was how she argued at the time in favor of single motherhood and atypical family arrangements. Her twins, likely also born via surrogacy, further underscore her commitment to building a family independently.
The actress has spoken publicly about her fertility struggles, referring to motherhood as
“the most humbling experience of my life.”
Although she has not divulged details, her experience represents a larger reality: approximately 1 out of every 8 American women struggle with fertility issues, the CDC reports. Heard’s experience contributes to an expanding dialogue around contemporary parenting, with surrogacy—employed by celebrities including Beyoncé and Neil Patrick Harris—increasingly in the public eye. The American surrogacy industry, estimated to be worth $4 billion as of 2023, is expected to grow substantially, reflecting shifting trends in building a family.
Heard has resided in Madrid, Spain, since 2022, desiring to have privacy following her publicized defamation case against ex-husband Johnny Depp. The publicized trial drew out divided opinions and caused her to withdraw from the tumult of Hollywood. Now settled in the upscale El Viso neighborhood, she focuses on raising her children and taking on smaller European film roles. Director Conor Allyn, who worked with Heard on In the Fire (2023), described her as a “dedicated mom” thriving in Spain.
Heard’s spokesperson told People,
“Amber is delighted to welcome the twins and complete her family. Mama and babies are enjoying every minute. And Oonagh is happily running the show.”
This glimpse into her family life highlights her joy, with Oonagh embracing her role as big sister.
Heard has maintained secrets about conception and paternity of her twins in line with how she treated Oonagh’s birth. The lack of information has generated rumor, much of it focused on Elon Musk, her ex-boyfriend from 2016 to 2018. In a report in 2022, a court battle was noted amid allegations she had used frozen embryos to produce her twins. Rumor has hung in the air but remains unverified and has been ignored by Heard to maintain the privacy of her family.
On platforms like X, reactions to her announcement vary. Fans expressed heartfelt support, with posts like
“Congrats!” and “F— I’M SO MOVED.”
Yet, some criticism persists, tied to her past legal battles. Despite this, Heard’s focus remains on her children and advocacy for women’s rights and mental health.
Heard’s announcement arrives amid evolving discussions about family and autonomy. By openly embracing single motherhood and surrogacy, she challenges traditional norms, aligning with a cultural shift toward diverse family structures. Her story resonates with women navigating fertility challenges or choosing parenthood independently, amplifying the message that families can be built in many ways.
