Rapper Sexyy Red is facing serious legal trouble after being accused of inciting violence against the grandmother of her child. A $5 million lawsuit has been filed against the hip-hop star on March 25, 2025, claiming she shared the woman’s home address on Facebook and encouraged fans to attack her.
The lawsuit, filed by Nicole Barnes, 51, alleges that Sexyy Red—whose real name is Janae Wherry—posted her Hazelwood, Missouri, home address and photo on social media. Along with the image, the post allegedly urged her followers to “kick in the door” and commit acts of violence. Barnes, the paternal grandmother of one of Sexyy Red’s children, says she discovered the post on December 3, 2024, and was left terrified for her life.
As a result, Barnes claims she was forced to leave her home, struggle to find safe housing and seek professional counseling to deal with the emotional distress.
Her attorney, Steven Weaver, stated:
“Sexyy Red and her baby daddy are getting into beefs, for whatever reason, that have nothing to do with my client. My client should not be living in fear because of it.”
Barnes is now suing for assault, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
Legal documents show that Barnes and her lawyer initially tried to resolve the matter informally. However, Sexyy Red’s legal team dismissed the claims as a joke. After failing to settle, Barnes proceeded with the $5 million lawsuit, officially filed on March 24, 2025.
Despite the growing legal battle, Sexyy Red has not publicly commented on the allegations. Her recent social media activity has focused on music and personal updates, avoiding any mention of the lawsuit.
At 26 years old, Sexyy Red has become one of hip-hop’s most controversial and talked-about figures. Hailing from St. Louis, Missouri, she first gained national attention with her hit single “Pound Town” and her breakout mixtape Hood Hottest Princess (2023).
