Florida’s 2026 gubernatorial race just got a lot spicier. It all kicked off when OnlyFans star Sophie Rain dropped a fiery video clapping back at Republican candidate James Fishback. The 21-year-old Miami creator, speaking straight to the camera in a casual clip that racked up over 430,000 views on X, didn’t hold back after Fishback tagged her personally in a post.
“Never in my whole life did I think that I would wake up and see a Florida politician trying to start beef with me for clout,”
Rain said in the 49-second video, which spread wildfire across social media platforms.

The drama stems from Fishback’s bold pitch: a 50% “sin tax” on income from OnlyFans for creators living in Florida. The 31-year-old political newcomer, who runs an investment firm called Azoria Partners and has no prior elected experience, unveiled the idea during a January 12, 2026, interview on NXR Studios, a right-leaning YouTube channel. He described OnlyFans as an “online degeneracy platform” and said the tax would serve a dual purpose discouraging what he sees as harmful behavior while raising funds for public schools.
“If you are a so-called OnlyFans creator in Florida, you are going to pay 50% to the state on whatever you so-called earn via that online degeneracy platform,”
Fishback stated in the interview.
He took it further on X, directly calling out Rain:
“Hey @sophieraiin, Pay up or quit OnlyFans. As Florida Governor, I will not allow a generation of smart and capable young women to sell their bodies online.”
Fishback even crunched numbers, claiming Rain whose earnings have been reported at around $83 million since starting on the platform could owe the state about $42 million. He argued the policy would push women toward “better” paths like law, medicine, teaching, nursing, or motherhood, and estimated it could generate hundreds of millions for teacher pay raises (aiming for $75,000 starting salaries) and improved school lunches.
Rain, who identifies as a Christian and says she doesn’t post fully nude content, fired back hard.
“So he’s proposing a sin tax on VOPs where we would have to pay 50% to the state on top of the 37 I already paid to the government,”
She explained in her video.
“And I would be more than happy to pay that if multi-billion dollar corporations were also being properly taxed. But surprise, they’re not!”
She called the whole thing “insane” and “the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard,” accusing Fishback of clout-chasing since she’d never heard of him despite living in Florida her entire life.
Rain also highlighted the human side of the creator economy.
“I think that people also fail to realize that there are so many creators on this platform that do this job because they’re struggling. So to tax them like that when they’re literally doing it just to support their families is sad,”
She said. In interviews with outlets like People magazine, she added,
“How do you charge a sin tax to a Christian who hasn’t sinned? No one ever forced me to start an OnlyFans, it was MY decision. God knows what I’m doing.”
She even tossed in a sarcastic jab:
“Sounds like you subscribed and got buyer’s remorse after dropping your annual salary on an OF girl.”
For those not in the know, OnlyFans is a subscription site where creators charge fans for access to photos, videos, and messages often adult-oriented, but not always. The platform, launched in 2016, takes a 20% cut, leaving creators with the rest from subs, tips, and pay-per-view. While stars like Rain pull in millions, most of the 3 million creators worldwide earn modestly around $180 a month on average, per reports from Daily Mail.
A “sin tax” is a government levy on stuff society frowns upon, like cigarettes ($1.34 per pack in Florida) or booze ($6.50 per gallon for spirits), meant to curb use and rake in cash. Applying it to digital earnings like this would be a first, and critics say it’s selective and could face legal hurdles over free speech or discrimination.
Fishback, a long-shot in the GOP primary trailing frontrunner Byron Donalds by wide margins, ties into far-right circles and pitches himself as a Trump loyalist fighting “degeneracy.” But with no state income tax in Florida, his plan could scare off creators and hurt the economy. Rain wrapped up her thoughts by saying,
“I would much rather continue donating directly to people in need because we all really know where our tax dollars go.”
