In a courtroom over in Beauregard Parish, the jury got to see this recorded interview from last year where the son of ex-DeRidder mayor Misty Dawn Clanton Roberts talked about sneaking a peek through a window crack and spotting his mom with his teenage buddy.

He straight-up said in that 2025 forensic video, which was played back on February 27, 2026, based on what the court reports say.
Roberts, who’s 43 now, made history as the first female mayor of DeRidder, this small Louisiana spot with around 9,800 folks right by the Texas line. She held the job starting in 2018, dealing with all the usual local stuff in Beauregard Parish. But this whole mess has blown up nationally because it’s got a public figure involved, her own kids’ stories, and it raises all these questions about power dynamics and gender when it comes to abuse claims.

It all kicked off at a summer pool party at her place in 2024, thrown for her children and their friends. Prosecutors claim booze was handed out to underage kids, which they say led to what happened next. Roberts quit out of the blue on July 27, 2024, and just days later, on August 1, the Louisiana State Police nabbed her after someone filed a complaint that sparked an investigation by their Special Victims Unit.
She’s facing charges like third-degree rape and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles. The first go-around ended in a mistrial over some judge and indictment screw-ups. Then in January 2026, an appeals court knocked out a few of the charges, but the main ones stuck, and the retrial got underway in late February 2026.
A lot hinges on what her kids have said. Her son’s taped interview went into detail about seeing the incident and even texting his mom something like, “He is 17.” Court docs show the alleged victim was actually 16, though. When he took the stand live, the son kinda backpedaled, saying he wasn’t totally certain. Her daughter, in her 2025 interview, mentioned seeing them “on top of each other.”
There’s other evidence too, like a DoorDash driver who recalled dropping off Plan B to Roberts’ house right after the party. Prosecutors pulled up texts, including one from the victim’s mom asking if Roberts might be pregnant, and Roberts shot back that she was on birth control. They showed photos from the bash, one of which the state called “lewd,” with Roberts in a bikini next to the teen.
The defense is poking holes everywhere. Her lawyer, Adam Johnson, says nobody actually witnessed any explicit stuff firsthand, and he’s calling it a house of cards built on gossip and a sloppy investigation. Roberts’ ex-husband did testify that she admitted it to him, but the defense highlights how witness recollections don’t line up perfectly.
Under Louisiana rules, consent age is 17. Third-degree rape kicks in if someone’s 19 or older hooks up with anyone under 17, and there’s at least a two-year age gap even if it was consensual. Roberts was in her early 40s at the time, so if she’s found guilty, she could get up to 25 years. She’s pleading not guilty.
Over on social media, this X post from @SeeRacists on March 1, 2026, exploded with more than 1.6 million views. It was a clip breaking down the son’s testimony, and it set off a storm people furious about the family fallout, others diving into discussions on how female perpetrators get handled in child abuse situations.
The story’s getting tons of online buzz, but fake news is flying around too. A bunch of viral takes treat the accusations like proven facts, totally overlooking that the trial’s still going.
More witnesses are lined up as the case rolls on.
