Brazilian content creator, lawyer, and martial arts practitioner Tamirys Teixeira Santos has died after going missing during a beach outing in Rio de Janeiro, authorities confirmed. She was 36.
Santos was discovered days after she disappeared while swimming at Leblon Beach on April 18, 2026. Her body was later recovered near Botafogo Beach following an extensive search operation.
According to local reporting and police statements, Santos had been spending the afternoon at the beach with friends when she went into the ocean around 5 p.m. and did not return. Her friends reportedly stayed at a nearby kiosk and later left the area, unaware of the full severity of what had happened.
Her disappearance was only formally recognized the following day when beach staff noticed her personal belongings — including her phone and clothing — had been left behind. A missing-person report was then filed with local authorities.
Search teams from Rio’s fire department launched recovery efforts on April 21. Hours later, divers located a body drifting in waters closer to Botafogo. Officials confirmed her identity the following day after family members made a formal identification at the morgue.
An autopsy conducted by the Instituto Médico-Legal (IML) concluded that Santos suffered a sudden stroke followed by drowning. Authorities have said there is no evidence of criminal activity in the case, and police have described the death as accidental.
Fire officials also noted that ocean conditions on the day of her disappearance were calm, and no emergency rescue calls were made from the beach at the time. Some reports also indicated that alcohol consumption had been observed among people in the group earlier in the day, though this has not been formally confirmed as a contributing factor.
Santos’ mother, Elisabeth Teixeira, has publicly questioned how the incident unfolded on a crowded stretch of beach.
“She was going into the water and didn’t come back,” she said in comments to local media. “It was full of people. It’s hard to understand how something like this could happen without anyone noticing.”

On social media, Santos had built a following of more than 18,000 users on Instagram, where she shared glimpses of her life as a lawyer, athlete, and martial artist. Her content often featured training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai, alongside lifestyle and beach posts.
Her profile bio reflected her interests, listing her passion for fitness, combat sports, and the ocean. Her final post, shared April 13, was a simple selfie captioned only with a heart emoji.
After news of her death broke, tributes quickly flooded her account. Followers and friends remembered her as disciplined, warm, and full of energy, with many expressing shock at the suddenness of her passing.
While authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding the timeline of her disappearance and recovery, police have maintained that all current findings point to a tragic medical emergency at sea followed by drowning.
