In a scene reminiscent of an action movie, a 26-year-old Missouri man abandoned his vehicle during a police pursuit Saturday night and executed a daring dive off a bridge into Table Rock Lake, surviving a roughly 100-foot plunge before being taken into custody.
Gavin Thor Lundgren of Kimberling City was arrested after authorities say he refused to stop for a routine traffic stop, sparking a high-speed chase that ended on a two-lane bridge spanning the lake. Dashcam footage captured the dramatic moment: Lundgren exited his moving car, ran along the bridge’s edge, and launched himself into the dark water below in what police described as a surprisingly graceful swan dive.
The drop, estimated at approximately 100 feet (about 30 meters), occurred at night under challenging conditions including poor visibility and cold water. Despite the extreme risks—high-impact entry, potential for severe injury, disorientation, and strong currents—Lundgren miraculously survived with minimal or no serious injuries. He was rescued from the lake shortly after the jump.
Police called the escape attempt one of the most unusual they had ever seen. “In all our years of service, we had never encountered such an escape attempt before,” one officer reportedly said, noting it as the first case of its kind during a vehicle pursuit in the area.

Lundgren was booked into Stone County Jail on multiple charges, including resisting arrest by fleeing, careless driving, third-degree assault, and interfering with an arrest, according to reports from NBC News. Local outlet KYTV added that he allegedly headbutted two officers during the incident.
The wild video has quickly gone viral online, with viewers drawing comparisons to Grand Theft Auto-style antics, over-the-top Hollywood stunts, and “hold my beer” moments. Some social media users jokingly referred to it as “Darwin Award runner-up energy,” though officials stressed the serious dangers involved and the unpredictability of such pursuits.
The incident unfolded on a bridge over Table Rock Lake late Saturday. Lundgren’s decision to leap bought him only a few extra minutes of freedom before authorities apprehended him.
As the investigation continues, additional details from police reports are expected in the coming days. Lundgren now faces a series of legal challenges that could result in significant consequences.
