A video of Metro Transit Police handcuffing a guy on a sidewalk in Southeast D.C. while his goat stood nearby has the internet in a full-on spiral. The clip, which started circulating earlier this week, shows officers pushing Kyrie Givens against a patrol car near the Navy Yard Metro station as his goat, Lil Bob, waited on a leash a few feet away. A young boy looked on. Captions claimed the man was “arrested for walking his pet goat in public,” and the internet did what it does best: turned it into a meme factory.
Only problem? That’s not what happened.
Givens, a content creator who posts as @kynobap and has been documenting life with Lil Bob for months, later clarified he wasn’t arrested at all. Metro Transit Police confirmed the brief detention stemmed from an unrelated matter involving a partner agency in Prince George’s County. He was released shortly after. Officials made a point of saying the goat had nothing to do with it.
Still, the optics were irresistible. Lil Bob has already built a modest following riding the Metro, walking the neighborhood, and posing with random D.C. characters, including National Guard troops and at least one celebrity. Givens has shared that he keeps several goats — Lil Bob, Alabama, Barney, Wilma, Shawty, Low and Moesha among them — and the pair’s casual presence around Southeast D.C. had largely gone unnoticed until the handcuffs came out.
The legal backdrop only added fuel. D.C. law (Code § 8-1808) generally bans keeping goats as regular pets. Temporary exceptions exist for things like vegetation management, goat yoga, or approved petting zoos, but permanent pet ownership isn’t on the menu. Metro rules also require non-service animals to stay in carriers. Lil Bob has clearly been testing those boundaries.
Givens had prior legal issues earlier this year involving a shooting incident in Hyattsville; his attorney has said those charges were dropped the week before this latest run-in.
What started as a confusing sidewalk stop has now made Lil Bob a minor local celebrity and given the internet fresh material. In classic 2026 fashion, a guy walking his goat somehow became the day’s main character — even if the goat wasn’t the reason he ended up in cuffs.
