Newly released police bodycam footage from a 2021 home invasion at Lil Durk’s Georgia residence is circulating online, offering a calm but striking look at the aftermath of a violent encounter that left the rapper and his then-girlfriend, India Royale, unharmed.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours of July 11, 2021, at Durk’s home in the gated Chateau Elan community in Braselton, roughly 50 miles northeast of Atlanta. According to police reports, multiple armed suspects forced their way into the house, firing shots upon entry. Durk (born Durk Derrick Banks) and Royale returned fire in what authorities later determined was self-defense under Georgia law.
The newly surfaced video, shared widely on X in January, shows the couple seated in a police SUV shortly after the shooting. Royale sits in the front passenger seat, while Durk is positioned in the back. Both appear composed as an officer questions them through the open window.
During the exchange, Royale matter-of-factly acknowledges firing back at the intruders. When asked how many shots she believed she fired, she responded, “Just a couple,” while confirming that the suspects shot first. The officer also references Durk, briefly handling a firearm during the chaos. Neither Durk nor Royale appears visibly shaken in the footage.
Authorities later recovered shell casings and followed a blood trail believed to belong to at least one fleeing suspect. Despite the exchange of gunfire, no injuries were reported to Durk or Royale. The suspects escaped the scene, and the case was treated as a targeted home invasion and aggravated assault. Durk and Royale were considered victims, and no charges were filed against them.
The resurfacing of the footage has sparked renewed discussion online, with many fans praising Royale’s composure and response during the incident. The clip has also fueled support for Durk amid his current legal situation, with “Free Durk” messages trending alongside reactions to the video.
Durk is currently incarcerated and awaiting trial on federal charges related to an alleged murder-for-hire plot. He has pleaded not guilty. While the 2021 home invasion is unrelated to his ongoing case, the timing of the video’s release has drawn attention from fans and commentators, reframing Durk as a past victim of violence while his legal battle continues.
