A resurfaced 2024 video of singer-songwriter D4vd is drawing renewed attention online as a Los Angeles grand jury continues to consider potential charges in the death investigation of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.
The clip, originally posted by D4vd in February 2024, shows the “Romantic Homicide” breakout artist cleaning several pairs of sneakers outdoors at night. In the brief video, he tells viewers, “I clean people’s shoes as a side hustle btw.” One of the pairs — black-and-white high-top sneakers — has been widely compared on social media to shoes worn by Hernandez in photos taken prior to her disappearance.
Hernandez, a Southern California teenager, was reported missing after attending a D4vd concert in Los Angeles in 2025, according to statements from her family. On Sept. 8, 2025, authorities discovered her remains inside the front trunk of a Tesla registered to the singer after the vehicle had been towed from a Hollywood Hills street.
According to court documents released in February 2026, the remains were found in two cadaver bags and were described as severely decomposed. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s full autopsy report remains sealed by court order, and an official cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.
Prosecutors have identified D4vd — born David Anthony Burke — as the primary target of a potential first-degree murder indictment, though no criminal charges have been filed as of Feb. 25, 2026. Grand jury proceedings in California are confidential and can extend for months while evidence and witness testimony are reviewed.
Court filings show that members of Burke’s family in Texas have challenged grand jury subpoenas requiring them to testify, contributing to procedural delays. The matter has moved through Texas courts in recent weeks as prosecutors seek to compel compliance.
Law enforcement agencies have not publicly confirmed whether the resurfaced sneaker-cleaning video is part of the evidence presented to jurors. To date, no official source has verified that the shoes shown in the clip belonged to Hernandez.
D4vd, who rose to prominence in 2022 with his Billboard Hot 100–charting hit “Romantic Homicide,” canceled tour dates shortly after the investigation became public in September 2025. He has not released a detailed public statement addressing the allegations or the grand jury proceedings.
The case has sparked intense online debate, with some social media users questioning the pace of the investigation and others cautioning against drawing conclusions from circumstantial material circulating on the internet. Under U.S. law, D4vd remains uncharged and is presumed innocent unless and until prosecutors file formal charges.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has not indicated when the grand jury may conclude its review.
