Cardi B Shocks at Met Gala With Bizarre Intestine Dress

Cardi B delivered one of the most memorable — and memed — looks of the 2026 Met Gala on Monday night, stepping onto the red carpet in a custom Marc Jacobs creation that channeled bold surrealism for the “Fashion Is Art” theme.

The rapper, who attended while battling a fever, wore a dramatic ensemble featuring a sheer black lace outer layer adorned with exaggerated ruffles and bulbous, voluminous padding that created tubular, coiled protrusions across the torso, hips and skirt. The piece was layered over a color-blocked bodysuit with vibrant pops of lavender, coral, pink, orange and green peeking through. Massive inflated sleeves, polka-dot accents and a trailing silhouette added to the garment’s sculptural impact. She completed the look with sky-high pale pink knee-high platform boots from Marc Jacobs’ Kiki line, long black opera gloves, a silver-grey wig with black headband and pearl earrings.

Cardi posed alongside designer Marc Jacobs and his husband, letting the statement-making gown take center stage with minimal glam makeup.

The design drew inspiration from German surrealist artist Hans Bellmer’s “The Doll” series, known for its fragmented and exaggerated forms. It aligned closely with the evening’s Costume Institute exhibition, which explored fashion as art, sculpture and performance. Jacobs has previously referenced surrealist influences in his collections, and this piece amplified the theme through its body-horror-tinged maximalism.

Social media quickly reacted to the gown’s fleshy, tubular ruffles and balloon-like shapes, with many users comparing the silhouette to intestines, prolapsed organs or tumor-like growths. The look sparked widespread memes, including jokes about “this is what the rich do with their money,” though fashion insiders praised its commitment to the theme and Cardi’s history of theatrical Met Gala appearances.

Styled by longtime collaborator Kollin Carter, the ensemble underscored the divide often present at the event: boundary-pushing art to some, grotesque excess to others. Tickets for the fundraiser started at $100,000, with tables going for $350,000 and above.

Cardi B has consistently delivered show-stopping moments at the Met Gala, and her 2026 appearance was no exception, generating conversation long after she left the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
