Baby Killed in NYC Shooting; Suspects Caught on Camera Fleeing

An innocent child died on April 1, 2026, through a tragic incident of gunshots in the stroller that killed the infant girl in Brooklyn.

This incident occurred around 1:20 p.m. in East Williamsburg, close to where Moore and Humboldt streets intersected. The two men in the motorbike fired bullets at a group of individuals, which constituted gang violence. The baby girl who got killed was called Kaori Patterson-Moore.

Her mother, Lianna Charles-Moore, was walking with a double stroller that had her 2-year-old brother along with Kaori. However, the child’s brother sustained a grazing wound caused by a gunshot, but fortunately he survived. At the sound of gunshots, the family fled into a nearby store and it was then when the mother found out that her baby girl had a head injury. She hurriedly took the child to Woodhull Hospital where she was declared dead an hour after admission.

A brief clip of 26 seconds long, taken by surveillance footage which was posted on X instantly became viral on social media platforms. This video is taken just after the shooting when two people in moped who were trying to escape while driving northwards on Humboldt Street in the opposite direction had an accident. One of them tumbles hard, they both get up, one appears to grab or adjust something, and then they split up and run in different directions on foot. The footage has that typical blueish security camera tint, with the name “HENDO” in the corner and a heartbreaking static picture of baby Kaori wearing her little white headband and wrapped in a yellow blanket overlaid in the bottom right.

One of the suspects, 21-year-old Amari Green (also reported as Amuri Greene or Amare Green), the alleged shooter who was riding on the back, is already in custody. He was arrested in his hospital bed following the accident and currently stands accused of murder as well as two attempted murders. The driver of the moped who was seen driving in a light gray outfit, white shirt, and black mask remains at large. The police department has put out a $5,000 bounty on anyone with information leading to arrest of the perpetrator.

The NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that the shooting incident was one that “truly shocks the conscience.”

Kaori had just started saying her first word “mama” and was beginning to take her first steps. Her family described her as a joyful, always-smiling baby who was full of laughter. Her mother later said through tears,

“I gotta bury her now, and I can’t even hold my baby.”

Kaori’s grandparents, who are pastors and lived with the family, spoke about their unimaginable pain but also said they choose to forgive the shooters and are praying for them.

There have been vigils held at the street corner, as well as outside the bodega, where one can see flowers, teddy bears, and candles adorning the pavements. There have also been countless social media postings, where people have aired their sorrows and prayed for the family’s peace, as well as for justice.

The unfortunate incident of yet another life snuffed out due to random gunfire during an altercation between gang members serves as yet another example of how innocent people can end up paying the price for this problem in America’s urban centers.
