In 2022, Brazilian woman Meirivone Rocha Moraes accused her husband of cheating after a friend reported seeing him enter a motel with another woman. She said she also found messages on his phone. The husband in question is Marcelo, a life-sized rag doll her mother made for her.
Moraes, then 37 and a resident of Rio ParanaĂba in the state of Minas Gerais, said the incident occurred while she was hospitalized for three days with their son Marcelinho, who had a virus. She described looking through the phone and becoming convinced of the betrayal. According to her account, Marcelo denied everything, said he loved her and asked for forgiveness.
The pair began sleeping in separate beds or with the doll on the sofa. Moraes shared the episode in a TikTok video that drew more than 1.6 million views. She said the relationship was hanging by a thread but that she planned to give him another chance for the sake of their family.
Moraes works as a cleaner and has described herself as a forrĂł dancer. She has two children from previous relationships. During the pandemic she complained to her mother about being single and lacking a dance partner. Her mother sewed the life-sized cloth figure, which Moraes named Marcelo. She has repeatedly called the meeting love at first sight.
The couple held a wedding ceremony in December 2021 attended by more than 250 guests. Moraes wore a white gown. Marcelo was dressed in a tuxedo. They later spent a honeymoon at a beach house in Rio de Janeiro. Moraes has said they enjoyed their wedding night and that married life with him is wonderful because he does not argue and understands her.
She has presented the relationship as ordinary family life. The pair have “children” who are also dolls: son Marcelinho, twins Marcela and Emilia, and later a fourth child. Moraes has staged pregnancies, births and outings, documenting them on Instagram and TikTok under accounts linked to the name Meirivone Rocha or Meirivone Santinha. She dresses Marcelo in men’s clothes, takes him on dates and has said their daily routine mirrors that of other families, with the difference that Marcelo has no feet and is therefore disabled while the children are described as having dwarfism traits that require extra care.
Moraes has returned to the cheating theme in later years. She has called Marcelo a serial cheater, claimed he has hundreds of female contacts on WhatsApp and said she once found a thong. On more than one occasion she removed a detachable rubber penis, described as a white dildo about 16 centimeters long, and locked it away as punishment. She has also complained that he is lazy, never works and leaves her as the sole breadwinner while she struggles with bills.
In interviews, including an appearance on the Spanish program La Vida Sin Filtros, Moraes has said she forgave him because she loves him and because of the children. She has described him as worth ten men despite the difficulties. The story has been covered by outlets in Brazil and internationally since the wedding, with Moraes continuing to share updates about family milestones and marital tensions through social media.
