A 16-year-old from Brandon, Florida, is now facing serious charges after the fatal shooting of another teen inside a busy sporting goods store this summer. On September 14, 2026, the State Attorney’s Office approved a manslaughter-with-a-weapon charge against Ahmad Webb in the death of 15-year-old Jaden Law. Webb was arrested the following day.
The shooting happened on July 10, 2026, around 4:28 p.m. at Dick’s House of Sport in the Brandon Exchange shopping center near Tampa. An employee called 911 after hearing a gunshot. Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived within minutes and found Law dead in a fitting room from a single gunshot wound. The medical examiner later ruled the death a homicide.
Surveillance video showed three juveniles, including Law and Webb, enter the store together and head into the fitting-room area. Employees reported hearing a shot. Footage then captured Webb and the third juvenile leaving the area and running into the parking lot. Deputies detained the two within minutes. No firearm was found on them at the time.
The next day, the HCSO Dive Team recovered a handgun from a retention pond south of the shopping center. Lab and ballistic tests linked that gun to the shooting. Investigators said all three juveniles had possessed the firearm at some point, and it had been stolen from a vehicle.
Sheriff Chad Chronister said,
“This investigation has never stopped. Our detectives have worked diligently to uncover the facts surrounding Jaden Law’s death, and today, we are holding a 16-year-old accountable with a manslaughter charge.”
The detectives had been on this investigation for about two months prior to the indictment being filed. The officials mentioned that the actions were reckless in nature. It is not entirely known what part the third juvenile had in all of this.
Samuel Law, the father of Jaden Law, who identified his son immediately following the shooting, described his son as “kind, respectful, and a sweet young boy with a soft soul.” Samuel stated that in their last conversation, he had told Jaden to come back home to find them a job and that Jaden had agreed to do so.
After the manslaughter charge was announced, Samuel expressed mixed feelings.
“I miss my son every day, you know? And it’s killing me still,”
He said.
“They are saying that it was an accident, and I don’t think it was an accident… How is that going to be an accident when you ran, and you got rid of the gun, and you didn’t even try to get my son no help? They charged him, but we still lost.”
His words reflect a father’s grief and personal view of the events. They differ from the formal charge, which does not allege intentional murder.
