Three American states performed lethal injection executions on the 13th of August, 2026, which was the first time since the 7th of January, 2010, when three inmates were executed on the same day. Oklahoma, Tennessee and Alabama conducted one execution each, according to reports which described it as a coincidental schedule and not a federal initiative. The Associated Press and state correctional facilities have verified the execution.
Carlos Cuesta-Rodriguez, aged 70 years, was declared dead at 10:13 a.m. CDT at Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester. He was found guilty of the 2003 first-degree murder of his common law wife Olimpia Fisher who was 43 years old and shot her during an argument after she wanted to leave him. The Pardon and Parole Board in Oklahoma denied clemency. Rodriguez said to the Board he did not need or deserve mercy because
“it was time for me to pay for what I did.”
He whispered
“I love you”

Anthony Darrell Hines, aged 66, died at 10:43 am CDT at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville. He had been convicted for the 1985 murder by stabbing of Catherine Jean Jenkins, aged 54, and a mother of four children and motel employee in a robbery at the CeBon Motel in Kingston Springs. Hines had been on death row for nearly 40 years. The execution followed questions regarding the lethal injection of another prisoner in Tennessee in May 2026 when it took the authorities over one hour to insert a second IV tube. Hines’ lawyers argued that the man’s multiple strokes and partial paralysis raised similar concerns, but the courts rejected stays. In addition, Governor Bill Lee denied a request for a stay of execution. According to reports, some of his final words were
“Tell my son hello”.
It was Tennessee’s first execution in 2026.
Jeremy Tremaine Williams, 42, was declared dead at 6:16 pm CT inside the William C. Holman Correctional Facility in Atmore. He was convicted of raping and killing five-year-old Kamarie Holland in 2021. The man confessed to the crime, forfeited all of his rights to appeal except death and requested immediate sentencing. As a result, it took only four or five years for Jeremy Tremaine Williams to be executed after committing the crime. His last statement was:
“I want to thank God for forgiving my sins so that I can see him in peace. Goodnight.”
This is the first execution in Alabama in 2026.
In 2025, there were 47 executions in the U.S., which is the largest number of annual executions since 2009. As of August 13, in 2026, there were 22 executions so far, with most occurring in Florida and some other states. The death penalty has been abolished in 23 states, while some other states still have moratoriums on the death penalty.
