President Trump Considers Pardon for Diddy in Upcoming Round of Clemency

President Donald Trump is privately weighing the possibility of clemency for Sean “Diddy” Combs as part of a larger wave of pardons, according to multiple reports citing sources familiar with the discussions.

The talks, first reported by CBS News and picked up by other outlets on July 3, come as the administration eyes a significant clemency push potentially tied to America’s 250th anniversary celebrations. Trump recently granted pardons to 11 individuals convicted of vehicle emissions and Clean Air Act violations, describing the cases as unfair prosecutions.

Sources indicate Trump has not made a final decision on Combs or other high-profile names under consideration. A White House official told reporters that the president remains the ultimate decision-maker, while noting the official pardon team has not recommended clemency for the music mogul. Advisers were expected to review options over the July 4 weekend.

Combs, the founder of Bad Boy Records and a towering figure in hip-hop for decades, was convicted in July 2025 on two counts of transportation for the purposes of prostitution (Mann Act violations) involving ex-girlfriends. The jury acquitted him of the more serious charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. On Oct. 3, 2025, he was sentenced to 50 months in federal prison, along with a $500,000 fine and five years of supervised release that includes drug abstinence and a domestic violence program.

The Bad Boy founder has been serving his time at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey. His projected release date has been moved up due to good behavior and program participation and currently stands around February 2028. His legal team continues to appeal the conviction.

The latest reports mark a potential evolution in Trump’s position. In January 2026, the president told The New York Times he had received a handwritten pardon request from Combs but was not considering it at the time, citing past personal tensions. Trump had previously described Combs as “hostile” toward him after he announced his candidacy.

Trump has a pattern of using pardons for figures he views as over-prosecuted or aligned with his critiques of prior administrations. Other names reportedly surfacing in the current discussions include Fugees member Prakazrel “Pras” Michel, who is imprisoned on foreign lobbying violations.

Public reaction has been mixed, with some viewing a potential pardon as consistent with Trump’s approach to non-violent offenders, while others have criticized the idea given the nature of the charges and related civil allegations. A full pardon or commutation would likely end Combs’ remaining sentence and supervision early.

No official action has been announced, and the White House has pushed back on similar rumors in the past. The story is developing, with Trump often using Truth Social to share updates on such matters.
