A peaceful corner of Gwinnett County got rattled on September 22, 2025, after a guy suspected of breaking into a house on Redbark Court ended up getting shot and killed. The police have named him as 25-year-old Kylen T. Sunday, but there’s some confusion some reports say he’s from Ohio, others peg him as being from Sandy Springs right here in Georgia.
From what the Gwinnett County cops are saying, they got a call about a burglary happening in the wee hours that morning. Apparently, Sunday busted through a back window using a big propane tank and slipped inside. Once he was in, he stripped down naked, started wrecking stuff, and went after the people living there.

The family freaked out and called 911 right away. One of them later told reporters,
“We didn’t know this guy from Adam. No clue who he was or what he wanted in our house.”
Cops showed up and surrounded the place as things got intense. Later on, detectives pieced together that when officers tried to grab Sunday, one of the homeowners pulled out a gun and fired once inself-defense, taking him down.
A police rep said during a briefing,
“From everything we’ve got so far, the folks in the house were just defending themselves in a scary, life-threatening situation.”
Nobody’s pressing charges against the homeowner yet. The homicide squad and crime scene techs are still digging into it.
Cops aren’t sure what set Sunday off like that. No tox reports or autopsy details out yet, so questions about drugs, mental health stuff, or whatever are hanging in the air.
As far as they know, he had zero connection to the family. If anyone’s got tips, hit up 770-513-5300 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 404-577-8477.
This whole thing’s spotlighting Georgia’s “Stand Your Ground” and Castle Doctrine rules. Basically, under O.C.G.A. §16-3-23.1, you don’t have to back down if someone’s busting into your home and threatening you or your loved ones with violence. Experts say that’s why the homeowner’s likely in the clear forced entry and real danger.
Folks in the neighborhood are calling it downright creepy for such a chill spot in Lawrenceville. One local chatting with FOX 5 Atlanta said,
“We’ve always felt pretty secure around here. Knowing this went down just a few doors away? It’s nightmare fuel.”
It ties into bigger worries about break-ins across Georgia. Stats show burglaries are still a big deal among property crimes, even if numbers have dipped a bit lately.
Police are telling everyone to hold off on wild theories while they investigate. One detective summed it up:
“We’ve nailed down what went down that morning. Why Sunday did what he did? That’s still a work in progress.”
For the time being, it’s a sad example of how fast things can go south when someone’s invading your space, forcing you to make a tough call to stay safe.
