Two streamers, known online as RelicKris and ManukiEmi, were airlifted to safety on Monday after a live-streamed hiking challenge in the Swiss Alps went dangerously wrong.
The pair set out on September 15 to climb the Schilthorn—a 2,970-meter (9,744-foot) peak in the Bernese Oberland—while broadcasting their journey to viewers. To add a unique twist, they strapped a Fractal Terra PC case to their backs as part of the content stunt.
The hike, planned as a 12-hour climb, took a perilous turn when the streamers encountered a closed trail section that had not been clearly marked on the official Schilthorn website. As they pushed forward on one of the mountain’s steeper slopes, the ground became too unstable to continue upward—or retreat safely.
“The incline was so severe that slipping was a real risk,” RelicKris explained during the stream, noting the added weight of the PC case worsened their balance. He added that he had canceled the trip twice before for safety reasons, stressing that “no content is worth risking lives.”
Emergency Rescue Caught on Stream
Recognizing the danger, ManukiEmi called Swiss emergency services. A rescue helicopter arrived within hours, airlifting both streamers from the hazardous slope. The dramatic scene unfolded live for their viewers. Neither streamer was injured, though both described the ordeal as frightening.
Helicopter rescues are a standard response in the Alps, where rugged terrain often makes ground evacuations impossible. Switzerland’s Air Zermatt rescue service conducts thousands of such operations annually, particularly during sudden weather shifts or accidents on remote trails.
While Schilthorn is more commonly accessed via cable car—famously featured in the James Bond film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service—the mountain’s steep terrain has long posed risks to climbers. A 2018 cable car malfunction that stranded hundreds required similar helicopter support.
This latest incident spread quickly online. Viewers clipped moments from the stream, turning the event into a cautionary tale and a meme.
Following their rescue, RelicKris and ManukiEmi expressed gratitude for the swift response of Swiss rescuers and emphasized the importance of better preparation for future projects.
Despite the lighthearted gimmick, the ordeal highlighted the unforgiving nature of the Alps, where a lapse in planning can quickly escalate into a life-threatening situation.
