The Sacramento Kings Attempt To Turn Things Around With New Hire

The Sacramento Kings have been a laughing stock of the NBA for some time now. Their latest inquiry may give them a glimpse of hope of turning around this franchise going forward. The Kings have recently hired Mike Brown as their head coach for this upcoming season, reported Sam Quinn for CBS Sports. Brown signed with the Sacramento Kings on a four-year deal for next season. However, he will remain on the Golden State Warriors staff for the duration of the playoffs.

Oddly, the two finalists for the job we’re currently sports broadcaster Mark Jackson and Brown. While Kings owner Vivek Ranadive seemingly wanted Jackson, the front office wanted to go in the direction of Brown instead.

    Brown’s legacy throughout the NBA

Brown’s biggest claim to fame is his five-year stint as HC of the Cleveland Cavaliers. There he led the charge in 2007 making the finals and coaching LeBron James. Sadly, they were never able to reach that level again. He later was fired in the 2009-10 season in hopes to help James stay at the Cavaliers. Many questioned his legacy after the Cavaliers debacle; however, he proved his worth with the Warriors organization assisting Warriors HC Steve Kerr.

“Mike has consistently shown his leadership skills in guiding successful teams throughout his extensive coaching career,” stated Sacramento Kings GM Monte McNair in a press release. “He has collaborated with top NBA players and is highly regarded for his defensive expertise. I am thrilled to bring his wealth of experience to Sacramento.”

He was given an opportunity with the Los Angeles Lakers; however, he was mediocre. Brown recorded 41 wins and 25 losses in his debut season which is stellar but not jaw-droppng. He later started off the next year, 1-4, and was fired shortly after in 2012-13.

Now Brown will attempt to break one of the worst droughts in NBA history. He is transitioning from a team that’s seen ample success within the past decade compared to a team that turning around this franchise since 2005-06, according to Bleacher Report.

Hopefully, Brown can make history and change the atmosphere and energy of the Sacramento Kings next season.
