Tekashi 6ix9ine Disowns Puerto Rican Culture Due to His Father Leaving Him

Despite having a significant presence in the hip-hop scene, rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine has disavowed puerto rican culture due to his father leaving him. In an interview with Power 105.1 FM on Monday, the New York-based artist explained that his father snitched against him and that he felt that he should not be a part of his life anymore.

He also said that his constant use of the N-word in his music is not a reflection of his Mexican heritage or ancestry, but it is simply his own behavior and how he feels. He continued by pointing out that he is not the only one who uses the N-word and that it is simply part of his personality.

Does he have a right to use that word?

The N-word is used on a regular basis by many people and even though the word is not offensive to any culture, it has become an increasingly popular term in recent years. Regardless of whether or not the word is offensive, it is important to remember that it is still a form of hate speech and that it should be avoided at all cost.

While many news outlets in the US have begun to cover 6ix9ine’s legal battles, Spanish media has been slow to catch up. Until recently, stories about 6ix9ine in Spanish media focused more on his scandals and ironic philanthropy work than on the actual crimes he committed.

Univision and Telemundo, among others, have just begun to consistently cover 6ix9ine’s legal battles as of late. The sites have made an effort to update their audience about his racketeering and firearms charges after he plead not guilty, but they have yet to provide any coverage of his child sex case.

In 2015, 6ix9ine pleaded guilty to using a 13-year-old in a sexual performance. He was sentenced to four years probation and 1,000 hours of community service. But, as a result of the case, he was not required to register as a sex offender, which meant that he could continue his career in the music industry.

    Family struggles

Although Jezebel reported on the incident in depth, few other media outlets picked it up and gave it a serious coverage. Most articles, particularly those on major hip-hop sites, copied and pasted the article and then threw it in as an afterthought in their own reporting.

Another reputable publication, Complex, was even more selective in its coverage. It only mentioned the case twice in a yearlong series of articles on the #MeToo movement, and both those mentions came from video interviews with the rapper himself, allowing him to claim that he was unaware that the victim was underage at the time of the crime.

The rap artist has since gone on to release several hits that have broken charts in Spanish and the United States, including his most recent single, “BEBE,” which debuted at number one on Latin Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart. The song, which features Puerto Rican rap artist Anuel AA, is also currently on the Top 40 of the Latin Billboard Hot 100 and has been downloaded over a million times in the United States.
