    Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Record: Jamaican Sprinter Wins 5th World Title

    The 2022 World Athletics Championships took place this weekend in Oregon, marking the first time the event ever took place in the the United states. This year’s 100 meter women’s track and field championship consisted of three Olympic champions, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Elaine Thompson-Herah and Shericka Jackson.

    Moreover, the Jamaican team’s star trio, Fraser-Pryce, Thompson-Herah and Jackson, will participate in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay. The 200m heats took place Monday, July 18, at the University of Oregon. The 4 x 100m relay will take place Friday, July 22. The winners of each heat will come together in the championship of each event. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s record is notable.

    Jamaica Finishes 1-2-3 Again

    In the women’s 100 m track and field championship the trio currently tops the world list. Fraser-Pryce came first leading with 10.67s, Jackson came second with 10.77s and Thompson-Herah came third with 10.79s.

    This makes the first time a nation has ever swept the women’s 100m at the World Championships. However, This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the women of Jamaica sweep the 100m.

    Women’s track and field (or track and field in general) sprint events (i.e 100m & 200m) are often dominated by the Jamaican runners.

    Last summer at the Tokyo Olympics the trio swept the 100m final. The three stars also dominated in events such as the 200m and 4 x 100m in the Olympics which they are participating in later this week as well. By the end of this week we will witness more history and wins for the Jamaican team.

    Shelly-Ann’s 5th World Title

    Fraser-Pryce winning this years 100m championship also tied her own record at 10.67s. She has won back-to-back world titles and continues to hold the world record for the 100m dash. The 2022 World Athletics Championships gold medal makes Fraser-Pryce a five time champion, the first female to ever accomplish such greatness. She won the world title in 2009, 2013, 2015, 2019 and 2022.

    Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce’s record is impressive. Winning her first Olympic title in 2008 she created a legacy. She is one of the most successful women in sports as she has won 8 Olympic medals, 3 of which are gold. Winning seven titles between the Olympics and World Championships, Fraser-Pryce breaks her tie with Olympic champion, Usain Bolt.

    Fraser-Pryce has earned names such as the greatest of all time and the queen of track and for her amazing accomplishments. As a Jamaican Fraser-Pryce was born with the greatness of sprinting in her DNA. Jamaica has produced many legendary sprinters both male and female dating back to the 1940s.

    Most are not aware that in 2017 Fraser-Pryce took a break from running because of her pregnancy. After giving birth to her son she began training and running again in 2018. Her pregnancy was a minor setback for a major comeback. Although she had her fears of getting her core strength back, it all worked out. Fraser-Pryce record was broken as she returned to track and field in 2019 winning her 4th 100m world title.

    Fraser-Pryce is role model to women world wide and one of the best sprinters in history. She won her first 100m title at the age of 22 at the 2009 World championship in Berlin. As a mother at the age of 35, she continues to win, make history, get better and represent for her country.
