    The ‘Carrie’ actress, Samantha Weinstein, dies at 28 after her battle with cancer. Canadian actress and voice performer Samantha Weinstein dies after an extended fight with ovarian cancer. The 28-year-old star of the 2013 Carrie remake and a long list of animated characters died on May 14. She passed while surrounded by family and loved ones at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, Canada. Her family revealed the news in a farewell Instagram post.

    The actor first revealed her cancer diagnosis in January 2021. This comes after she underwent surgery to remove a cyst that swallowed one of her ovaries. A few months later, she began writing about her experience. She decided to document her health journey with the aim of inspiring others to stay positive. In a piece for the website LoveWhatMatters, she said that her cancer diagnosis was the best thing as well as worst thing to ever happen to her. She also said that she met her future husband Michael Knutson a week after being diagnosed, and they married in October of 2022. The couple celebrated their nuptials with a belated honeymoon trip to Japan. They shared a choreographed lightsaber duel for their first dance as a married couple.

    Despite her prolific work as an actress and voice artist, Weinstein was also deeply involved in the local music scene. She was the lead singer-songwriter and guitarist of the Toronto garage rock band Killer Virgins. She also appeared in a few film and TV roles, including guest spots on Being Erica, Copper and Darknet. In the latter, she starred opposite Dylan Baker and Ellen Burstyn.

    The talented Samantha Weinstein will surely be missed

    Weinstein began working in entertainment at a young age, landing her first acting role in the 2003 children’s series The Red Green Show. She went on to do more film and TV as a teen. This includes the 2011 Toni Collette-led film Jesus Henry Christ and the 2013 Carrie remake alongside Chloe Grace Moretz. She also had a prolific career in voicing many cartoon characters. She voiced Heather in Carrie, Sloan Plunderman in D.N. Ace, Jalopi in Kingdom Force and Clara Tinhorn in Dino Ranch.
     
    The actress was an outspoken advocate for mental health and the LGBTQ community, and she also came out as non-binary in her online essay last year. She is survived by her husband Mike, parents David and Jojo Weinstein and sister Sabrina.
     
    In her final Instagram post, Weinstein shared a series of photos of herself floating among the stars and a spaceship. She shared that she is now on her next adventure.
